Interesting. If it is only on major battles I wouldn't mind as much. But one video I saw this guy was fighting like... bears? and he had to pause to indicate all the actions.

Action starts at 1:30: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmT-kGlF_k4

And thats his choice. Some people love to micromanage every little bit. Though I only micro managed like that on fights that were hard or in which my party started losing and needed me to take over full control.

Anyone have a lot of experience with Dragon's Age: Origins? Watching the youtube gameplay vids gives me a mixed impression of the game. I really don't like the idea of having to individually select what all of your party does (including where they move to) all while pausing the game. If it had a more fluid system (or just less micro managing in general) or an automatic setting, I might give it a shot.

Sounds pretty much exactly like Final Fantasy Tactics, which I loved.

Maybe I should give the game another shot. I installed it a couple years ago and played for maybe 20 minutes.

DA:O combat is definitly more on the tactical side, unlike pure action RPGs. However, it plays more like Baldur's Gate type of combat where you only need to pause and issue orders when you want to. For easier battles you can pretty much let the action play out in real time. For the harder battles you will need to micromanage your party members. I think the tactical aspect of the combat is part of what makes the game so much fun to play. I almost never play games more than once but I have played all the way through DA:O three times and I still think the game is a blast. The DLC for it pretty well sucked however. I would just get the main game and forget about the rest.

I don't think the DLC will win any awards, and some is just not good, but most players wanted it, and it had some bonuses from gear to an extra party member option.

That DLC is $2.50 for what I'm not sure it originally cost, but I'd guess about $50 or more.
It also comes with the Awakening expansion. It's a no brainer to spend the $2.50.

As another player said, you can let it more autoplay on most battles, and micro on harder ones.

Part of the game design is to allow for you setting up scripted plans for each character to do automatically (like 'if a group member falls below 25% health, heal them).

One of the skill options is to be able to script more; and it's not hard, it's not a language, it's a menu where you click the actions.

Isn't Shale technically a DLC. If Shale isn't in the vanilla game, then the Ultimate Edition should be mandatory.

Yea its just a priority IF statement built into each character.

And I recommend the very last line you use have /attack closest enemy.

When I was first learning this setup I dont know how many times I screwed up the list and the characters stood there looking dumb because I didn't give a fallback script in the end.

I bit. Couldn't get into it on PS3, but it's been bothering me that I never finished it, and for $7.50 with all the bells and whistles, might as well grab it now.

I preordered on PS3 to get Shale...hoping he's in the Ultimate edition for PC too. Anyone know?

Strange as this might sound, I'd see what the DLC costs versus just re-buying the $7.49 ultimate edition while it's still on sale. Funny enough I don't see the DLC on Steam.

That's the problem. You can get Awakening separately, but in order to get those "nine additional content packs" (whatever they are), you're forced to buy the Ultimate Edition.

Longest Journey won the vote.

Current vote is:

Total War: Shogun 2
Warhammer: Space Marine
Dead Island

I voted for Shogun 2 since I already own the other two.

And what I'm saying is, it might be worth buying it even though you got the base game. Or, you could ask customer service if you can upgrade.

E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy is up again for $2.49, and Jurassic Park (54 Metacritic, watch out) for $7.49.

Hmmm... I know I said I was planning on getting Jurassic Park, but everyone tells me it's crap. I'm curious to try it, but that's another $7.50 down the hole... and I want to preserve my monies as much as possible because there's still a whole 4 days until the sale ends.

I think I'll just skip it for now.

A problem I have had with steam now is when trying to boot up Dead Island yesterday, It would "work" give me a black screen like it is loading. And then dissappear like I never asked it to execute playing

Same here. I might buy it for $2.50, just to see if it's really as terrible as everyone says. Maybe at the Christmas sale.

How is The Longest Journey? I really know nothing about it, other than "it's good."

A player described Jurassic Park as "Dragon's Lair in Jurassic Park". No free roam.

But some players do compliment the atmosphere and graphics and story.
