Yeah, it's Jetta'ish. Like they put it in the copy machine and resized to 110%.

$26K for a base TDI...
$32K for the top model...

It'd be hard to decide between the TDI and the V6 for the Premium model. The real problem is that it's only a couple grand away from a base G37 and $5K more than what Truecar says I can get a 2012 Camry XLE V6 for in my area.

Well, the base model with 6MT is the one that gets 43mpg on the highway...not too shabby for a decent $26K car. 31mpg city too.

Looks like only the base model comes with a manual, so you lose a little mpg if you don't buy the base model.

Research fuel pump failure. Repairs cost several thousand, and in some cases VW was denying them under warranty even for low mileage cars. A recent recall may have been related to this, or it may not have. A lot of info at tdiclub.com.

I considered getting a Jetta Sportwagon TDI, but was scared away by the fuel pump failures.

Oh heck no I would not go there!

I'm a huge diesel fan, but if they cannot show where and how they have solved this problem, I'm out.

This pretty much applies to any car. Anything you can't fix yourself is going to be ridiculously expensive. Improving gas mileage by a very small amount isn't worth it if it means fixing the car more often.

Old people have also told me the same thing about buying a new car in general. Sure the new truck is 100% better gas mileage, but my old Chevy still runs perfectly so why would I blow money on a new one? :p

I have a 2010 TDI, I think the fuel problems are overblown. I just use chevron diesel every fill up and make sure everything runs perfectly. The dealer TDI tech said mine is probably one of the best broken in/smoothest running engines hes seen.

I even went so far as to sucking out all the fuel from the fuel filter housing at 10k and 20k miles and used a magnet to see if there were any metal shavings in it, didn't find a single thing.

I really like the look of the B5 and B5.5 but would really miss the 2.0T in my B6.

I own a B5.5 and I don't think the new Passat looks any more boring than the b5 series. The B5 is a lasting design...a good one, but it was never flashing or exciting even.

My dad bought a 2008 CC after riding with me in my 07 Passat to Mid-Ohio on a weekend which included the TDI cup event. He saw a CC at the VW display which happened to be right near where we always park. No doubt the CC is a sleek car.

As for B6 exterior vs B5 / B5.5 I think that the B5.5 has a very German* design, especially the headlights. The B6 isn't exactly an ugly car but it is certainly less iconic than its elder brother.

*My take on good German design is that they come up with an awesome design and dial it back to 80%. Discreet and quietly competent. I do think that the newest Passat and Jetta (at first glance, I haven't really looked at one in person) dialed it back to maybe 65%. Pretty bland to me.

I can't think of many vulgar German cars; does the Mercedes-MacLaren SLR count as German?

i'm a former owner of a B5. i think the B5 WAS vw. i thought it looked great, classy, could be sporty if you modded, but wasn't so over the top that it screamed "look at me!"

in many ways, if i could have the B5 with the new 2.0T, i might have gone for that over my genesis coupe. i really, really love the B5 styling.

Drove one today (well, yesterday actually). It's better than I thought it was going to be. :)

Haven't made a decision yet, probably will by the end of the week though.
