Gorgeous. Please send contact if you ever change your mind 😀
His review of a 7 speed Lexus actually did sound a lot like that. He didn't say the performance was bad, but he didn't like how it sounded when the rpm is always changing.I can see it now when Clarkson does his test drive on Top Gear;
"...and to make matters worse they only give you an automatic transmission, no option for a proper manual. And while a lot of companies do that these days, BMW decided they didn't need to give it the usual two clutches, or somewhat reasonable automatic tranny, they gave it one clutch, and eight (8!) gears, that way it never makes up its damn mind and is always searching for a gear, making your life more annoying."

With proper funding, shouldn't they be able to build a strong variable transmission? Then instead of 8 gears you get infinite gears! Snowmobiles and quads have these and they're kinda cool.
Not like you don't have one of the best selections in the US being in South Florida. Come on man there are tons of them down there!
Yeah, that's what I was pulling from.His review of a 7 speed Lexus actually did sound a lot like that. He didn't say the performance was bad, but he didn't like how it sounded when the rpm is always changing.
Time for BMW to outsource to US Tremec transmissions if their pussy little manuals can't handle a mere 500 lbft in 2011. T56 and TR6060 can handle that without breaking a sweat.
Wikipedia (I know...) says the TR6060 is rated for 600 lb-ft, DINAN stage 1 tune for the 550i claims 573 lb-ft. Maybe 600 isn't enough? 😱

I still think theres something wrong with your car, or you.
My wife's car has the updated version of your car's transmission...and yes the S mode is nice for keeping the 2.0T in its prime, but it is no match for being able to shift exactly when you want. Even in manual mode, the ZF transmission is fairly responsive...but still leaves a buffer in there to make its own decisions (like when it wants to kick down).
Not sure about expensive cars, but for cheap cars this is almost never true. On page 1 of this thread I linked to an article that compared gas mileage for automatic vs manual, but part of the article also compared 0-60. For every single car tested, the manual was faster.But in a straight line, the automatic will be faster than a manual. Simply put, the computer is faster than you. You might think you can make better decisions, but I don't think that is actually true.

There's a seven-speed DCT dual clutch transmission with three different shift speeds and a fully automatic mode
You and Throckmorton should have a baby that grows up to be a Mustang designer who implements auto+live axle (again).Did you buy a manual because you like manuals or did you buy a manual because you hate automatics?
I just hate automatics. Constant gear hunting, they never knows what gear to be in or what I'm trying to do. Hit the gas a bit too hard and it drops 2 gears then spins the one tire then I lift my foot off the gas and it revs down a little without picking a gear then I touch the gas again and it slams the transmission into third as hard as possible. Fucking automatics suck. If only there was some kind of system where a clutch was not needed but the gears could still be manually selected....

I don't see the big deal if it's a manual with automatic clutches, that's alot different from a conventional auto (planetary gears and fluid coupling).
Besides the M5 is more a touring car, not a track demon.
