Defense Grid is alright. Not a big fan of strategy games, but I've been taking a liking to TD games as of late.
I'd be interested in Transformers, but I can't play it at max settings at the time being, so, meh.

The map packs for Defense Grid are .24 cents each today which are normally .99. I'm picking up all of them today.

Er, you know for 3 tickets in their little giveaway, you can actually get all the Defense Grid DLCs. So, it's more or less free.

Don't you have to own the required games in order to complete the challenges to earn tickets?

I'll be honest, I've bought 2 games every day of the sale, and I have no idea how the "summer activities" or ticket systems work. They seem complicated.

The way the prize tickets work is quite easy actually. Each day they have 6 new activities, which is 6 achievements that were added to 6 games for the event. You do whatever it is in the game to earn the special summer achievement and that gives you a prize ticket to put towards the prizes as well as giving you a drawing for the grand prize (top ten games on your wishlist).

Some of the summer achievements are easier than others. Most are (from my experience) pretty simply to get overall and don't require more than 30 mins.

If you are unsure how to get the achievement try going to the Steam users forums for that game. There is usually a thread in that forum explaining how to get the achievement and if it is a multiplayer one people are generally willing to help real quick as well.

Go here and read the challenges.

Obviously you have to own the games associated with challenges, but there are some where you have to do something ridiculously easy like recommending a game or joining a steam group, you can do at least 3 of these and enter the contest to win the top 10 games on your wishlist, and you can redeem the tickets to get some of the prizes listed there. Sunglasses and costumes are worthless for me, but there are also extra levels or map packs, for instance, I got all the DLC for Defense Grid (worth $1 right now, or $4 when it's not discounted) for free.
You can do challenges from past days and still get tickets for them.

I should have waited until last day to the FB ticket. Now my only close friends want me to stay. But I plan to deactivate again soon as this sale promotion thing is over.

As soon as you get the ticket for something you can delete/remove whatever. For the comment and recommend a game one, I made a quick one and checked the prize booth saw I got the ticket, then went and deleted the stuff and still kept the ticket.

Yeah I guess it just doesn't really seem worthwhile since you'd have a buy a new game to do a lot of the challenges. And for what? A $1 prize?

I think Defense Grid is awesome. It's a really good sci-fi tower defense game. It feels very well balanced. Tropico 3 is a pretty good city builder type game. Despite being a huge Diablo fan, I found Torchlight to be a mediocre clone. I'm not sure why but I just can't get into it. It just feels too repetitive.

through a little trial and error just found that while you can't get the achievement for a ticket until it is shown, you don't have to finish it on the day released, just prior to end of the event.

Yea, it was like that during xmas sales. Although games in daily achievements lose most of their discount after daily ends.

What's the official reason AnandTech doesn't allow group buys for Steam packs?
Because Steam supposedly is against it. Although it seems they are very lenient when it comes to enforcing that rule. I always see people posting that they have extras to sell on Steam forums.

I've never seen anything from Steam that said such a thing. Link?

I know they don't offer any protection for people who send money to others for a group buy, but that's not the same thing as prohibiting it.

I think it has something to do with point of purchasing just to gift to others', not sell.
Also sheisty Steam members would have opportunity to turn profit if selling after sale ends & bumping up their asking price.

I don't remember where Steam has that listed on the site, but it's somewhere. I don't feel like looking it up. Maybe somebody else will.

Agreed on both Tropico and Torchlight. Havent played Defense Grid. Tropica for 3 bucks is definitely worth it.

Interesting. Are you sure you're not confusing Two Worlds 2 with Two Worlds 1? I heard the first one was pretty terrible, but they made the sequel leaps and bounds better. I've actually been watching some gameplay videos of it on Youtube and it doesn't look half bad. It's very beautiful and the combat looks pretty good.

The only bad thing I've heard about it is the storyline is kinda "meh" (standard fare generic fantasy story, which is a shame because I need good stories in my RPGs). I probably won't buy it for $17 but I'm still very intrigued.

Thanks for letting us know you played it on console though. That might make a difference. They probably developed it for PC first and then did a lazy job of porting it to console, without really fine-tooling it for console hardware.

On another non-videogame forum I frequent, I posted the same a couple of months back when someone asked about TW2. They asked the exact same question (1 vs 2) and, trust me, it shocked me too when I read what I did about TW2 then tried it out. I loathed it and barely got into it because of the issues I mentioned. YMMV, but thought I'd throw out my thoughts.

Hm, trying out ARES for the achievement, and my only complaint is that up on the left stick (using a 360 controller) doesn't jump. There are times when it's easier to use the right stick to fire, so switching from that to the buttons just becomes a pain :p.

I think I'm going to have to buy a wired controller for this... not sure having a wireless one provides any benefit. Amazon has 'em for $30 in sexy black!
