Amazingly enough, I did actually call my insurance company...I realize that must be astounding to some people, but yeah, I know how much it'll cost. Look, I DON'T WANT A CORVETTE. Jesus...

Where the hell do you live? I had a 2000 Trans Am WS6 on full coverage and switched to a 2002 Z06 and my full coverage went from $40/month to $53/month w/ $500 deductible. This is in Minnesota. This was a couple years ago when I was 21.

How a Vette will be a difference of hundreds of dollars per month is a little hard to believe.

$53/mo for full coverage on a Corvette for a 21 year old? Were you blowing your insurance agent?

Or worse! I doubt I could get that rate now at 32 and flawless driving history. Maybe if I let that little Gecko have his way with me, though :)

I wish MrsSkoorb wanted a charger.

Ugh, two ways to read that sentence.

I pay $52/month for full coverage on my 2007 C6 and I'm in my mid 30s. That's with totaled S2000 on my record. I do have $1k deductible and the car is classified as pleasure vehicle.

When I was looking into a Vette two years ago, I was quoted ~$64/month for full coverage. That was for a 29-yr old with a clean record. Vettes really aren't that bad as far as insurance goes.

Funny thing is I was thinking about a WRX at the same time and they quoted me exactly TWICE as much per month. Apparently there are a lot of stupid WRX/STI owners out there.

This is in response to everyone's comments, but you were the first so I quoted yours...

Yes, $53/month for full coverage when I was 21 (still the same price and I'm 23 now). My rates dropped in HALF when I got off of my parents' policy. The WS6 I had was $80/month on my dad's policy. When I went on my own it dropped to $40. Believe me, I was shocked, too. Even more when I found out it was only going to be a $10 increase with the Z06.

The following reasons would be why (I assume, and from what I've been told). Perfectly clean history, multi-vehicle policy so the Vette is listed for "Pleasure Use" or whatever, and my credit score is about as high as it can be at my age (spanning 750-780 between the 3 ratings). Apparently, credit score is huge with insurance rates. I don't personally agree with it, but it helps me in this case for sure. Also, I live within 10 miles of where I work which plays a part. Lastly, it gets a multi-policy discount - originally with renter's insurance, but now with homeowner's.

Regardless, it's not a typo and that's what I actually pay. I switch coverage on vehicles every 6 months due to MN winters - so I take it off the Vette and put liability on my beater truck. Point is, they've had plenty of opportunity to catch any potential "mistake" on their part. My total monthly insurance is slightly over $100 because just liability on my Cobalt or Silverado (depending on time of year) is approximately $55/month.

Back on track to the OP - I'm not a fan of either the Mustang or Challenger, but I'd go for the Challenger.

or were you still on your parents policy? christ... i pay more than that for my new pickup...

Wasn't on parents' policy as mentioned above. But, trucks are expensive to insure. I have an 07 Cobalt with just liability and it's CHEAPER than my 93 Silverado Z71 that I put on liability in the winters. Not sure why, but my guess is if I get in an accident with the Cobalt I might dent someone's car - and probably die in the process. With the truck, I'm taking some shit down with me! Haha.

Depends what you want. Mustang GT will dominate the Challenger in performance. It's 500 lbs lighter and the base V8 will have the same power as the top Challenger.

But the Challenger is more of a luxury cruiser like a 300 or a Benz, and most people who buy them aren't looking for the fastest thing on the road. Go look at one and see what I mean.

The difference in insurance between my 2010 Vette and 2080 CTS is $5/month ($90 vs $95). The Vette actually has a good insurance score since it's typically driven by older and safer drivers.

Pics? Does it drive itself? How did you get it?

so how big's your ranch?

I just own 1 acre...in downtown Dallas.

Anyway, I just got a new trailer to haul band equipment in, my Suburban gets around 9 mpg towing it. The Dodge gets 22 on the freeway, probably will get 16-17 pulling the trailer. We're most likely going to be driving a lot this summer, wanted something more reliable that got good mileage. The Challenger will just have to wait until I win the lottery or I stop being so practical.

Considering previously you were considering a mustang or a challenger, methinks you just wasted $40k+ on a truck you'll likely barely utilize

smart financial move imo

Ok...wait. I'm cool with you getting whatever you wanted...but how much did you just spend on a Dodge Diesel to be more practical? You could have fueled that Suburban around the world several times to make up for the cost you just incurred to buy that Dodge. I wouldn't register that as practical.
