Maybe the shape was to improve fuel economy. The truly insane hypermilers sometimes put these big cones on the backs of their cars to reduce drag:

lol.

Two things would really help this aborted design.

Lower the beltline and bring the windows down to get rid of that weird ass droopy tansition at the C pillar. They also needed to integrate the door rail into that window line and not make it another attention drawing detail to that horrible profile.

Has anyone seen the Town and Country? It's a fucking cardboard box... at least the one (1997) my parents drive has curves

i see the crosstour/crz are starting to infect the entire product line!

looks alright but previous years were better looking.

It kills me. I really like the Honda's of old...and I still think they make some quality engines and wonderful manual transmissions...but these designs are just ugly...and they no longer sell a proper sports car. Acura is a design mess too.

This is what experienced guys says most of the time, the designs appeals more to the younger folks.

Love the mpg. looks are "ok". Probably just get used to it...

I've got an 2003 Odyssey now and love it... So functional but mpg not great... 28 would save me about $2k/year...

Noticed a hitch kit is $930

How good are aftermarket hitch kits and what do they cost. Is there anything "special" about the Honda hitch kit that an aftermarket kit wouldn't have... structurally, etc?

The Honda hitch may be a direct fit rather than a universal, it could be easier to install and stronger structurally. There may not be a universal hitch kit for this vehicle though, there may be little to no difference between the OEM and an aftermarket hitch. It's hard to say without looking at both side by side.

Knowing what I know, I'd expect an aftermarket manufacturer who specializes in hitches to know a bit more about how to design and test a hitch than a big OEM.

We got one installed from U-Haul for our '07 Odyssey for much, much less than that ($200-$300 IIRC). We only use ours for a hitch-mounted bicycle rack so strength is not that critical.

As I recall, when we looked at the Honda option, they also required installing a transmission cooler to maintain the warranty so that's probably the difference, so depending on how/how often you plan to tow, keep that in mind.

Good selection of Class II/III hitches for your 2003 Odyssey which run all under $200 and are very simple to install....Hidden Hitch, Draw-Tite, Valley and Curt brands. (Buy the Class III, ignore the Class II.....the Class III 2" receiver is much more useful and has many more ball mounts available than the Class II 1 1/4" receiver.)

But as SearchMaster noted, I'd really recommend the aux. transmission cooler for trailer towing with the Odyssey......Honda's not noted for ultra reliable automatic transmissions. Cheap insurance.

So yeh...I actually saw one of these things in person the other day on the road. Yep. Just as freaking ugly as the pictures. Seeing it in person doesn't help it any. It's one ugly bastard.

And I parked next to a Sienna SE the other day. Daddy like. 🙂
