yay! I'm excited.

New regs mean you technically have no idea how good each car is.

We all assume Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren will be at the top, but since the times from testing do not include how much weight each car is carrying and I highly doubt that the cars are running 100%. Plus, they have KERS and the new moveable wings. Should be interesting.

Thoughts? Insights to share? Like Pirelli better than Bridgestone?

Pirelli's are sure interesting. They are vastly different... tire wear is greater and there is less possibility of single stop strategies. Also, they say the times between different compounds is lot more significant than Bridgestone's.

I haven't found a good list of all of the rule changes put together, if someone has found that I would like a link.

The rules on using the wings don't seem to make sense to me. The description I saw said that the wings can only be used if you are following someone within a certain distance or time. That seems to give the following car an unfair advantage over the leader. Shouldn't the leading car be able to use his wing to be able to defend his position?

Movable wings, backwards exhausts, oh my! I don't think we'll have a clue who is going to be on top until a few weeks into the season.

I think we could see some cars miss races due to that team curfew rule if somebody is accident prone.

I'm totally in favor of the movable wings, but the driver should be able to move them at any point, and the front wing should move also.

Same with KERS. I'm glad it's back, but they should be able to use it at any time all they want as long as the car starts the race with empty batteries.

To me this also presents a situations where a driver can call into question if his system was activated when it was supposed to be. Pretty easy to shaft someone if they really wanted to.

The wing decreases drag on certain parts of the track if the driver is within a second of the car in front of him? Wtf.

Drivers should also make sure that they turn the wing into OFF mode before they enter a corner.. lower drag = less grip(by how much.. I have no idea) and they may have a hard time making a turn.

Schumacher set the fastest time today in the factory Mercedes. Hamilton was complaining about how fast the Perelli's go off so we should see more pit stops and fewer one stop strategies. More team orders at Ferrari? Vettel/Webber rivalry? Should be another great season as far as I'm concerned.

this sure will be an interesting season! the drag reduction system is a ok idea executed badly. the pirellis will definitely spice up the action, since the bridgestones were "too good"

if it does actually increase passing it will be a good thing. To many F1 races are just a follow the leader from front to back with the only passes taking place on pit lane.

Sorry, but that shit is stupid. The wing decreases drag on certain parts of the track if the driver is within a second of the car in front of him? Wtf.

Yes... surely it would be much more interesting to do the reverse... ie if you can get close enough to the person in front the system activates to increase the possibility of overtaking and reduce the amount of processional follow my leader that F1 often has...

Video of how it is supposed to work...

Promoting overtaking

The problem I have is the very first few seconds of the video, where it shows active car 2 <1 sec... surely under the current regs, it will also be active on car 1 at that point too?!?

Adustable rear wing in action (on board F1 rear facing video)

Testing highlights -
Valencia - what are the "spikes" on top of the airbox? UGLY!

nope. the rules are intended to handicap the lead car, or possibly un-handicap the following car. i am against this implementation for several reasons.

those are sensor masts, used only in testing. what are they sensing? lots of things. your guess is as good as any.

I thought that they might be aerials...

After looking at it again, the idea is to benefit the car behind - provided it can get close enough to pass. Should be interesting...
