The sharp edge on the passenger side looks dangerous.
"In case of an accident, your passenger will be cut in half"....
Weird ergonomics...
😕
Otherwise, looks all right.

Well this is a real disappointment. I was looking forward to seeing the first C2-based vehicle be the Mazda3, but this is a tuned C1 product, same as the first :
http://www.leftlanenews.com/mazda3.html
"The car rides on an improved version of the global Ford Focus C1 platform and is longer than the current model. Overall length is now 180.9 inches (up 3.5 inches), while width is 69.1 inches, height is 57.9 inches, and wheelbase remains 103.9 inches".
The reason this sucks, is that it's basically just a refresh that will probably be ridden at least 3-4 years, if not 5.
The Focus is preparing for global C2 for their MK3 model. 2011 is the target date. That means that the Focus will be the next-gen Mazda3, which I don't think makes the best business sense. Ford is bringing the excellent little Fiesta over to take over entry-econocar duties though, so perhaps that's their reasoning for upgrading the Focus.
The US Focus vs. UK Focus is a strange history :
UK Focus MK1 : 1998-2003
US Focus MK1 : 2000-2004 Same product as above, but fewer options
UK Focus MK2 / C1 : 2004-Current, with refreshes, same platform as C30 and Mazda3
US Focus MK1 1.5 : 2005-2007, Same as original with minor tweaking, and a move to all Duratec motors
US Focus MK1 2.0 : 2008-2010, Same as original with extensive tweaking

What exactly is wrong with the C1 platform? It's light years ahead of other small cars in that segment. Everything from handling, braking, steering, is superb. Seems like a case of if it's not broken, don't fix it. I would not be surprised if C2 had more cost cutting done to it to make it price competitive in more markets.
