2010 Honda Civic Pricing

This is not 1995 anymore. A civic ex is going to cost around 20k out the door. An accord ex 4banger is going to be 25k out the door. A leather v6 accord ex w/nav will easily run 30k out the door.

$20k for an econobox, you must be pulling my leg.

If I was committing myself to driving an econobox with 140 horsepower I wouldn't even pay $10k, and really you don't have to. You can pay under that for one with low miles and plenty of life left and warranty. Buy a real car.

Like someone said earlier, why spend 20k for a new civic when you can get a better used car for less. You can get a decent used accord for 16k.

Don't think it matters what year it is. It's called the Honda rape, where people think Hondas are actually anything other than over-rated underperforming cars they are. I've driven thousands of miles in Civics and CR-Vs in Zipcars, and they suck ass.

You can get a Malibu or Fusion for similar price and those will RAPE a Civic in handling, power, amenities.... everything.

get a mazda6
they got some killer deals right now

19,200 starting price
0% for 60 mos
500 customer cash

30mpg for the 4cyl

I agree with this.

Why get a new BMW 3-series when you can buy a used 7-series? Why buy a Cadillac CTS when you can get a DeVille?

I will solely comment on the pricing on Civic EX A/T, not about whether it's worth or not.

Per AAA Auto buying program pricing, which is pre-negotiated pricing (and you can do better), Civic EX A/T Sedan comes out $ 18,415 and Coupe comes out $ 18,215. So, I will start from offering $ 17.5k to the local dealers mentioning "I have other dealer quoted $ 17.5k through AAA pricing. Match it, or bye bye." Even try $ 17k if you are in the high competitive area.

Well in those two cases, the 3 series and CTS are actually much better cars for their intents and purposes (3 > 7 in everything but size and luxuries, CTS > Deville in everything but size).

Wow, just went through buyingadvice.com and overstock.com which requested quotes from all the regional dealers. Some of the quotes are as low as $16.9k for the EX, they're probably going to bait and switch saying the price was for manual not auto, etc. but looks like i might even be able to do $19 out the door.

Say exactly which options you want and what their quote is for that. Emailing them should completely eliminate the bait and switch. That's the goal here: to have the offer for your exact car in writing before arriving at the dealership. Of course, they'll try to add on every overpriced service they can, but they'll do that with any offer, and you just need to decline them and take the price that you have in writing.

And I'll go against the grain here and say that if the OP wants a new Civic, then that's what he should get. It's fine to mention that he could get a Fusion, Accord, etc. for the same price or even get a much nicer used car for the same price. However, if that's not what he wants, then there's no point in treating him like he's a fool for paying $19k for a Civic, especially when the current-gen Civic is as big or bigger than some of the previous-gen Accords.

But what if he really is a fool for it? I'm not saying that he is but just because somebody wants something doesn't mean they are not a fool for it. When the first BlackBerry came out in 2000 I spent $550 on one. I was making about $1600/month after-taxes. Foolish? Fvcks yeah. Thankfully I returned it before the 30 days were up. But heck I wanted it! And heck, it was very foolish.

Heh, "wanting" a Civic makes you an insta-fool in my opinion. Damned if a Hyundai Genesis doesn't spank and rape any Civic in every aspect.

19k out the door sounds good. hope you like your civic. There is a "Honda Civic Prices Paid and Buying Experience" forum on Edmunds where people post how much they bought their cars for. You could look there to see if anyone got a really good deal recently.

Civics are over-priced. Was at a Honda dealership last weekend and saw a 25k NON-SI civic optioned all-out. 25K, for a Civic!!??

More spank and rape, eh? Sounds like daddy issues.

Now you're comparing a compact 4-cylinder $19k car to a mid-size 6-cylinder $30k car.

In Europe many people actually prefer compact cars to mid/full-size ones. But you must be smarter than every European put together.

Anyways, here's a link to get you started in the right direction: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_car

The turbo Genesis and the Civic SI put out pretty similar acceleration numbers, the biggest difference between the two is the FWD/RWD and the fact that the Hyundai will depreciate substantially more than the Honda.

That's crazy!!?? All the dealerships in my city put their actual dealer cost on a big sticker emblazoned across the windshield so nobody has to bargain with them, and they sell each car at a loss. They operate entirely on tips.

That Honda dealership must be one of those ultra-rare "stealerships" I keep hearing about.

As crazy as that is somebody will actually buy it. Can you imagine $500/month for five years to drive that slow little thing? Damn.

Not ultra-rare, most dealerships are stealerships. Most use the same "how to fvck your customers out of money with these tricks" list.

Because speed is the #1 concern of car buyers today.

Does your detector need batteries?

in 08 my gf got a brand new civic ex coupe a/t (no nav) for 19k OTD through a broker. We live in northern CA. aside from me not liking the interior size its been a great car and has kept its value very well (though i havent checked within the last half a year or so).

It's funny how many people are suckered in by the advertised pricing. I'd have figured in a car forum that wouldn't be as prevalent but apparently their are still gullible people around. Those advertised prices for $19K Mazda6s and $20K Accords are the stripped down base model that you can't even find. Some dealer in Bumfuckistan has one, but roll down windows are optional and there's no option for anything better than an AM radio.

Back in the real world, a decent entry compact car with a couple of options like A/C quickly runs into the $19K range. Before we got the Mazda3 last month I swung by the local Toyota dealer to look at the Corolla and Camry because they were advertising good lease terms. That $200/mo Corolla lease quickly became $250 and the Camry quickly jumped from $250 to $300+. Never believe advertised prices from car dealers.
