2010 Driving Statistics

So I've started the long process of entering all of my gas receipts into an Excel spreadsheet. Each time I fill up, I put my odometer reading and usually other things too. Naturally, I started with the newest ones first...

I thought some of the numbers from 2010 were interesting.

I drove a total of 8532 miles in 2010
The average cost of fuel in 2010 was $2.931/gallon
I spent $436.82 on fuel in 2010
I averaged 711 miles/month
Average cost per month for fuel was $36.40
I averaged 57MPG over the year

Does anyone else log their fillups like this? I would be interested in seeing other peoples' numbers.

I'll report other years after I enter them. 2007 and 2008 are crazy because I was driving for a living... 😱 Envelopes full of receipts... And I may have lost some of 2009's receipts. 🙁 Hopefully I can find them.

you drive very little.

I was very bad about keeping track of expenses until I started my business last year. I've also started using Andicar on my phone, which keeps track of my vehicle expenses and mileages.

I drove in the range of 30k kms last year
averaged probably 10L/100km = 28mpg
meaning I burned around 3000L of gas
and at the average cost of $1/L for gas, I spent around $3000 for gas last year.

Yeah, I was kinda surprised myself. I thought it would be more. But I'm only 1.9 miles away from work. So that keeps it down considerably...

My company keeps track of it and gets records each week down to the finest detail. Couple times accused me of putting 91 octane in my vehicle when I know I haven't. I've calculated myself it costs about $1,000/month in gas for that beast.

Probably put less than 3k miles combined on my personal cars, tank of gas usually lasts 1-2 months. Saves me a shit ton of money having a company vehicle.

I did when I got my GTO. Lifetime average for that was a hair above 17 MPG 😀

That's a ridiculously little amount of gas, and miles. Shit, I spend at least $200/month on gas between our two vehicles. It's mostly my fiancée who drives a fair distance to work several times a week.

on 1/6/2010 i was at 19406 miles
12/29/2010 i was at 33550
i used 479.96 gallons, paying $1234.64, for an average price of $2.572 a gallon
average em pee gee of 29.47

I kept gas receipts for a while for the sake of Excel sheets but I eventually got sick of it.

Distance traveled for basically every year i've had a car is about 20,000 miles. Driving through the city to get anywhere takes way too long so I often end up going around the city. Driving to work through the city would be about 10 miles, but it would take 2 hours. Going around the city is 30 miles but it takes 40 minutes.

How did it change over the winter months?

Considerably.

My average from January through April was only 45.3MPG.

My average from May through October was 63.5MPG.

The short trip to work is murder on my fuel economy in the winter time. I bought a block heater for my car, so this upcoming winter I'll have it hooked up to a Kill-A-Watt, and will do an electricity and improvement in MPG cost analysis..

I can ballpark it pretty close. Bought a car in '09, remember the odometer reading, its been almost two years since (I prorated for through April, which will make it two years)

2009-10 (2 years): 6,000 miles/year
Avg gas price: $3.15
Avg MPG: 20mpg
Spent on gas: $945/year

I put around 14k on the Corvette and CTS combined in 2010. The cars both averaged around 17mpg on most fill ups. The exceptions are long drips, but that was was about 3k worth of trips at 26mpg. The average price of gas was probably closer to 2.75 since it only got close to $3 for premium in December.

So far the new car is averaging around 13mpg in day to day driving. This means about 3 gallons more of gas a week then last year.

I put about 14K miles on my car and I didn't keep as exact numbers as you I averaged for the year about 42.5MPG.

Winter is just BRUTAL on my MPG. I've been averaging between 37 and 40MPG per fillup this winter 🙁 During the summer I was averaging 48-51MPG per fill up.

Heck even did a 1800 mile highway round trip in September and managed 46.5mpg. Looking forward to next week when the temps will be in the low 40s, which should bump my MPGs to the low 40s as well.

Oh and I drive a Fusion Hybrid
