It's high but has no offroad ability. If I see a guy in a "softroader" I assume he's a poser, or whipped by his wife who wants a "high driving position" and 20 cupholders for the 5 times a year she drives it. If I see a guy in a wagon I think "that dude is a free thinker". The price you pay for the lame minivan look is much worse gas mileage.

A wagon will get better than the Tiguan's 18/24 mpg. A Jetta wagon with the same drivetrain does 22/29

When I see a person in any car, I wave if I know them. If I don't, I don't give them much thought at all.
The logic of praising a person perceived by you as a free thinker, and then negatively judging someone based on your consumer-driven preconceived notions of what driving any given vehicle says about them is perplexing.
It's a conveyance. Let them drive whatever they want.

edit: personally I'd take the boring reliability and resale value of a CR-V over any VW :)

Consumer-driven preconcieved notions are what make people buy vehicles like this instead of cars that make sense. Don't tell me you don't judge, for example, people driving ricers and Escalades.

I honestly don't. I could not care less what anyone else drives. It's kind of funny how hard it is for you to believe that. What makes sense to you and what makes sense to everyone else can be entirely different things.

A vehicle like that serves no purpose. Buy a wagon.

Eh? It basically is just a tall wagon, but if it serves no purpose, doesn't a wagon serve no purpose then as well? I don't follow your point.

Personally, I've never cared for the look of a wagon, I would much rather drive a mini-SUV.

You know what I love the look of?

The Audi A3.

Forgot about the A3, def. a good looking car.

An AWESOME looking car. Functional yet very sporty.

Precisely. Do you have one or know anyone who has one, or plan on getting one?
