Not really, its called being aggressive to the ring. Something dirk 'no show' nirwtozksi didn't do. Its basketball 101 - if you can penetrate then penetrate cause most times you will either get an easy layup or be fouled.
RE: Wade, the thing that ticks many people off is that Wade initiated much of the contact, yet the defense was called for the foul. In over 20 years of watching NBA, I've never seen such egregious officiating for the benefit of one player.
Now, to his credit, Wade saw that and continued to go to the rack...
That's the thing, even if you initiate contact as long as its not an offensive foul you can probably draw a foul. Its the peace of mind you can have when you drive into the key - its what I do whenever I play. Props to him for being aggresive. It might not be in the "spirit" of the game, but its definately within the rules.
The thing is, if the offensive player initiates the contact, it should not be a defensive foul, unless it's a hack or something, so it's not even within the rules. And other players do not get the calls that Wade did. Even Jordan, who got those calls a lot, never got the "benefit" of the officiating that Wade did in that postseason. That's what infuriates fans - the inconsistency of the officiating.
Where I play, if you initiate contact, you are on your own, unless something pretty severe happens, which is seldom as we're all over 30 y.o.
