2009 Ford Flex

Hadn't seen anything about it here and just saw it online for the first time;

http://www.fordvehicles.com/flex/details/

I really am at a loss for words. Seems like a very, very strange combo. Almost like a Ford Truck, a Mini Cooper and a Scion xB had a love child.

I almost want to vomit, but i'm not sure.

WTF is this? It's like these Ford guys aren't even trying anymore!

That's the first time in my life that I see a partially respected car manufacturer advertise "Three-Bar Chrome Grill" as some feature to consider when buying a car.

Nothing new here American cars keep getting cheesier while the Europeans are taking the opposite way.
Despite it's functionality (I haven't looked into that yet) It is so fugly I need to rinse my eyes!

That thing looks like Ford took the idea of the Jeep Commander and mashed it with the Ford SuperChief concept from the 2006 shows. Both are cool on their own, but eck. Ford, you're retarded in the styling department these days. Not to say nobody else is guilty of some ugly as sin designs as of late. The Big Three are all guilty of this in recent years... well, all the time actually.

I sorta like it in a people hauler not a crossover sorta way...

...but then my first vehicle as an Aerostar, which is sorta what I see this as: New Age Aerostar...

Ford exec 2: i know... lets make a bigass suv that looks just like it
Ford exec 1: yeah!

You know, Ford execs know a heck of a lot more about what people want than one person's individual choice. I absolutely love the look and will seriously consider giving one a test drive. I know I'm not the only one out there who thinks that.

It looks like it took the styling of that Toyota Scion box and actually did it right IMO. But again that's MY opinion. That's what is so beautiful about the American car market. We all get choices.

apparently NOT

REALLY?

failed again

...and again

they have successfully killed an american icon, and demolished 2 of their popular vehicle names. do you really think they are doing a good job?

they fumbled with lincoln as well. look at how GM revived cadillac, and lincoln remains the stable of livery cabs.

as for choices, i found the american auto to be a lot more limited than say... the european auto market.

Why can't people just admit to themselves that the Minivan is still the best people and stuff hauler available?

But we continue to drive manufacters away from building them (GM and Ford are giving them up) and get stuff like this in return that offers less true "FLEXability" and economy.

the aerostar/windstar/whatever were all crap.

and this is a minivan.

it probably looks a lot better without the optional two-tone roof. now if only that big aluminum-look tailgate could be painted body color as well, it'd be just fine.

Fusion, Mustang, MKZ, Focus, Ford Trucks, upcoming MKS. They still have hope.

That's so ugly, I don't even know what to say. It's like a Minivan crossed with a Forester slapped with an ugly stick!

But oh my gosh...the features...that's like the ultimate family car! Roomy, safe, lots of nifty features, and is not a van. And can probably replace a truck for Home Depot runs. Hmm...

While Europeans get to snicker and talk smack about crappy American cars, Ford gives Europe the Focus ST and Australia the Falcon...

It's almost enough to postulate an anti-American conspiracy theory to understand why American auto makers only want to succeed in foreign markets but not at home.

The Aerostar - minus it's fr3@king heavy seats to take in and out - was a great minivan...for it's time. If Ford put out a revised Aerostar right now based on current day tech. it'd sell at least as good as the Windstar/Freestar.

The only competitor to the Aerostar was the Caravan, and it didn't have near as nice as an interior as the Aerostar's did, until their Town and Country models came about - and even then it was about a tie...maybe.

No conspiracy theory needed there, just look at the facts:

1.) UAW workers down to $14/hr for the same work, same quality.
2.) Pension and Medical off the books and handled by the UAW.
3.) All setup now to move jobs overseas when no one here will be willing to work for $14 hr..
4.) Vehicle prices will remain the same, or go up...all while having the same features.
5.) Ford Corp. + Management rakes in huge profits.

Their plan is going exactly according to plan...no one could suck as bad as Ford Management unless it was on purpose.

hehe, I love this thread...I'm the narrator on the Flex at the auto shows 😀 Just finished Chicago, got Cleveland coming up this next week. I thought more would like the design...I do, and we get a really good amount of positive feedback on the vehicle. It'll be interesting to see if it sells though.

I'll be heading up to the Cleveland show this weekend or next. If I remember I'll stop in to say hi.

I'm not in the market for a minivan, but the Flex is cool looking, nonetheless. I love the interior.

I was in a study group/survey for it and ford wants to project a "modern, luxurious, sporty" image for it. I told them the interior quality and space were nice but it was uglier than sin.

Well I'm in Europe and I say it's pretty good looking, but it seems some of you would prefer they keep churning out Explorer clones for the rest of this century.
