IIRC, the 500/Taurus, Freestyle/Taurus X, Edge, and Flex share platforms.

It's kind of like how hookers share venereal disease.

I hate myself but it doesn't look that bad. It's very blah, like an emotionless computer made it, but in that way it's also subtle and not overdone like the aztek or something.

Agreed. Not going to rock the Automotive World, but not near as ugly as many here seem to think.
 
It's not a bigass SUV...if you look at the comparison of a person standing next to it; it's like a long PT Cruiser or Chevy HHR type thing. Sure it has seating for up to 7, but that's misleading, the car will be much smaller than it seems and I think it will look good. I believe Ford had a prototype called the Fairlane with this same design look and it seemed to get good reviews from what i saw.

Excuse my bumpin' an old ass thread, but I saw the Flex for the first time today. I really like it, it sort of reminds me of a Range Rover mixed with a Minivan. I love Range Rovers, and regardless of how poorly they seem to hold up I would love to have one. I might look into getting a Flex, I'm sure it'll be much cheaper than the RR of my dreams 🙂

Because some people are stupid and haven't put everything gas related into their head. I still see most people accelerating at an unnecessary pace, but do you think they're really considering how much gas they're wasting (I said most, not all)?

It's like all of the people buying F-150s when they don't even use it for what it's meant for. Of course, the F-150 was finally beat out in sales by 3-4 cars (I know one was the Civic). So, perhaps SOME people are catching on, but most Americans just can't seem to get a clue (assuming they can do something about it...I know some are stuck with certain cars).

But to be more on topic, I don't know what to think about that vehicle...some of it looks decent, some looks nice...but the rest of it is just gross. At first I liked it, because I thought it looked like a small 2-door car (like the Mini). I really thought it looked pretty decent then. I guess I just failed at looking at the initial picture...once I saw the four doors and a side view, it suddenly became ugly. And the gas mileage...buying this is a dumb idea.

Then again, I don't think I'd ever buy a Ford. I only like the design of the Mustang to a measurable degree. Some other aspects of their vehicles are OK. But everything just seems like a waste of money. Plus, I've never trusted their reliability. For example, if I had to choose between the Focus and the Civic or the Fit (I believe they can be comparably in price), I'd choose the Civic in every single way over the Focus (even if it cost more).

Ford really needs to do more than they are...or not. I'm not too concerned if they fail.

Hey, the Aerostar was awesome. Lots of good memories of travelling cross-country with my family in a '90 Aerostar XLT with all the amenities.

When gas prices rose to $4 per gallon, I started being super conservative with the way I drove too. But then I realized that it was better to maintain *reasonable* techniques in the interest of safety (not running stop signs to save gas, accelerating onto a highway at a reasonable rate, etc.) and time (don't drive 55 in a 70 mph zone to get better gas mileage), and being more careful with other spending habits.

I don't see any problem with someone owning an SUV as long as they need the vehicle (large family, needs to tow, etc.) and they limit unnecessary trips.

But every household in America doesn't need an F-150 for sure, but not every family can get buy driving a Civic and a Yaris.

it's a FWD V6 powered station wagon. compared to the ford expedition, it's downright fuel sipping. 17/24 vs. 12/18. that's the same as a G35, a 4 door, 4 seat sedan.
