I understand why NASCAR is coming out with the Car of Tommorow (which is what is depicted in the picture - Toyota's version). GM, Ford and Dodge have very similar versions, with the chassis being identical.
There are numerous changes to the cars from todays NASCAR Cup cars - such as a more upright windshield, bigger front and rear bumpers (over 3" taller), and a revised cage which among other things places the driver 2" more to the right inside of the car (more to the middle). Smaller fuel tank 17.5 gal vs 22 I think. There's got to be a hundred changes.
All to make the car more reliable, safer and cheaper to build. The upright winshield, front end and rear wing will serve to add drag to reduce speeds.
But, damn if it wasn't beaten with the ugly stick. Those bumpers look like battering rams front and rear - look how they stick out.
However, I'm sure they will look better with paint on them. Ever really look at one of today's speedway cars? They are very asymetrical, with one side of the car actually longer than the other. It isn't so noticeable with the paint done up correctly.
That said, I effing hate NASCAR. IMO the cars are bigger to allow for more sponsor space, because that whole sport is run by corporations. On it's best day it's racing in a cereal box, on the worst it's the WWF of motor racing with people crashing into each other on purpose. And NASCAR gives them a slap on the wrist for it - as evidenced by Carl Edwards $20K fine for crashing into Dale Jr. during a caution. That's NOTHING.
I prefer open wheel stuff myself, where you have to rely on skill rather than fenders.
Oh, and fire400 should stop posting.
