oh please, you call that a camry? it barely has the same body, and I know for sure the internal hood parts are so custom designed and tuned that it would barely be a standard camry. probably has nos fueled parts with an upgraded computer different from the standard camry.

marketting these days, so deceiving. who the hell is going to race with a new 2007 against a soup'D up eclipse? sounds interesting to see how toyota shares will do after this, if it's even real.
lol, is he being sarcastic, i can't tell
I hope he is. I don't want to believe people are that dumb.

ZV

Not dumb, just uninformed... but in his defense there are similar comments in the TCL thread linked. And they're supposed to be "car guys."

Its the car of tomorrow or in other words Nascar's new setup. Next year they start phasing it in so some tracks will have that style car and others the same as this year. Its a good bit different then the current cars not that you can really tell just by looking at it other then the wing.

I used to be a NASCAR fan, when the cars slightly resembled their production counterparts. (I just dated myself didn't I? :p)

My father worked for Ford all his life, so I would cheer on the Fords. But other than the damn blue oval sticker, and the grill sticker, and the headlight sticker, I can't tell any of the mfg's apart anymore.

I don't know why Toyota is even bothering entering when they're (NASCAR) trying to make a single template car for all teams to use. There's really no brand identification, other than the afore mentioned stickers.

the toyota celica barely qualifies, people usually get the celica for the body or cheaply priced sales.

dell right now is upgrading their standards to combat with HP/Compaq in order to get their stupid computers to sell, when will they realize that even the standard Dell needs an upgradable graphics port and just as equal of flexible components like all the other leading cloning companies?
so many basic HP/Compaqs shipped with no AGP port back in the day, but they are getting smarter and putting in (have been) upgradable PCI-e mobo's.
toyota shouldn't enter the racing game, they might look as stupid as Dell. most smart racers don't even look at Toyota for crying out loud.

1) Have you ever seen a Dell, HP, or Compaq?
2) What the ****** do they have to do with anything?

I think other automakers should pull out and start their own series, hopefully with real stock cars this time.
Mustang, Charger, Camaro. Let Toyota run their "Camry" in a circle all day by itself.

Because, Nascar is not doing anything to promote actual cars that the carmakers make. It does nothing to advance their technology, it's really a waste of money for automakers, and Toyota is the one who has money to waste, so let them waste it. There is really no need to have more than one manufacturer in Nascar since all the cars are pretty much identical anyways.
On the other hand, if I see real or modified Mustang, Challenger, and soon Camaro racing in a real stock car series, I am going to be interested, and I can actually buy the car that does well. Win on sunday, sell on monday.

Except the challenger dosent exist, hell it isnt even confirmed for production and the Camaro dosent exist and wont for a few years. Then the Charger, thats a 4100-4200lb automatic sedan that will be mucho slower than a GT500. Then all you got is the little mustang(be it the gt or 4000 lb Shelby 500) running in a circle by itself.

Also have you walked into a ford dealership lately? I work at one and if you read the window stickers, the Explorer's Motor is made in Germany and the Tranny is made in :Q FRANCE.

It is a globalized economy. Get with the program, one of the big 3 is a german company and the other 2 are laying off and buying out workers asap. Toyota on the other hand is building factories and suppling jobs from Michigan to California to Texas.

You guys who want to see "Stock" cars race need to seriously check out the Grand-Am Cup

Example of Ford's Grand-Am "Boy Racer" (Mustang)

What does that have to do with anything? It doesn't make Nascar any more interesting or relevant to reality. Find me one person who says, I bought (Fusion, Impala,...) because it won at Nascar. I know who Dale Jr. is, but I have no idea or interest in what brand pf car he drives for Nascar. I know Corvette is winning at ALMS, but I couldn't name the drivers for you. But it sure as hell makes me want a Corvette. In first case, the driver is the star, in second case, the car is the star. If you are an automaker, you want the car to be the star. Also, Challenger and Camaro are coming soon, I am sure you can set up race in a way that it's competitive. ALMS has done it.

That's awesome. I also like how in Australia they race production Fords and Holdens. Not like the boring Nascar races.
