Well Ford does plenty of badge engineering itself. The Big 3 needs to die to get rid of it entirely.

You mean how the Maxima is an Inifinity whatever? The Z is a G35? The Pathfinder is a QX? How an Acura RSX/RL/RX/FU/Whatever is a Honda Accord/Prelude? How half of the Lexus cars are just Toyotas?

I really could go on and on.

Idiots really shouldn't open their mouth sometimes.

1) With a few rare exceptions, the Japanse platform share rather than badge engineer. There are only a few blatant badge engineered vehicles (Land Cruiser/LX470, Armada/QX56).

2) The 350Z and G35 are platform cousins. The G35 coupe actually has a longer wheelbase than the 350Z and they share no body/interior panels.

3) The same platform used on the G35 and 350Z (FM) is also used in varying states of tune on the M35/M45 and the FX35/FX45. However, each are completely different vehicles.

4) Toyota's Camry platform forms the basis of a multitude of vehicles:

Avalon
Camry Solara
Sienna
Highlander
RX330
ES330

Yet each has a completely different interior/exterior and trim.

5) The new Lexus IS, GS and LS have no Toyota counterparts anywhere in the world.

6) None Acura's vehicles (in the US at least) are badge engineered versions of their American Honda counterparts.

I could make many of the same excuses for American cars..but honestly, do you believe that crap? I'm not pro American or Anti foreign, but making a car (take a look at most of the lexus/toyota honda/acura infinity/nissan and if you can't see they are built on the same platform and look almost exactly the same....

Its like saying the Expedition and the Navigator are different because their interiors are different. Duh, but they are basically the same cars with only an upscale interior. That?s true of most foreign cars.

I could go through and find you cars that look the same and built the same, but it's not worth the time or hassle.

it's one thing to share body panels, it's another thing to share a platform. are you telling me the chevy cobalt and the HHR are the same car? and neon/PT cruiser? there are many differences between lets say the G35 and the 350z. Just because they may look the same doesn't mean they're the same car.

Every single Acura looks like an Accord, looks the same, drive the same. The interior is spruced up a bit. One is actually in Accord in Europe. The Camry and the ES330 are twins, one is pretentious so buyers put down another $10K to buy a badge. From what I can see the interior of the Dodge Durango and Chrysler Aspen are different. The exterior is a bit different. Look at the Lexus LS, the exterior is a rebadge of Mercedes and BMW put in a blender. Lexus is one of the most successful brand in the industry, yet designers overthere hasn't come up anything original since the brand debuted. The new Camry is a copy of a Mazda 3 mix with the old Huyndai Tiburon funkyness at the front.

Wow, a bigger load of horse sh!t I've never read.

IS350 anyone? GS? Looks a hell of a lot better than the new BMW's or pretty much anything American in that segment...oh wait, there are no American cars in that segment.

It IS the durango

I know it is. I still think it looks better than the Durango.

don't be ignorant. the GS competes with the lincoln LS (which is sorely due for an update, but still a very well done car) and the CTS and/or STS, and to some limited extent the high end 300C

Back in the 70's, when my parents bought their first new car it was a Dodge Aspen station wagon. And it had no A/C and red vinal seats that burned the skin off our legs but anyway, How did Chrysler get the ASPEN name and when did it become a truck? And what does that have to do with badge engineering?

Edit: Yes, ok, it's badge engineering. Oh well, many companies have been doing it for many years and will likely continue to do it.

im not sure but i think it's actually a durango, hence people started saying that the lexus LS is a BMW and the G35 is a corolla with an infiniti badge.

I don't know what you are talking about, but yeah it's a Durango. The body is identical, with a different front end tacked on. They own the Aspen name because Dodge and Chrysler are the same company. I don't know what that has to do with G35s and Corollas...
