What's the real difference between a DSG, a manual, and an auto? I hear the DSG referred to as both a DSG automatic AND a DSG manual, it's confusing![]()

It has two clutches, which essentially allow it to shift a lot faster than a standard automatic. When in reference to a manual, it has paddle shifters that because of the extra clutch are a lot more responsive than those of a standard automatic. How DSG works?
As far as it only having 200HP, a $500 chip would boost that to 252hp/303lb-ft.

I think you mentioned that same chip in a thread about the new Jetta GLI. I have it bookmarked somewhere
Definitely something to think about if I get one of these. $500, to get 25% more power out of my engine? FVCK YES.
EDIT: The A3 has paddle shifters, so it's what they'd call a manual DSG?

Remember that a chip will void your warranty
it's a GTI with fancy interior. i'd rather get the GTI.

Yeah ..........riiiight !

Here we go again ....... and you could add one of those breather kits too for another 25% and whle you're at it, a fat exhaust tip...that should squeeze out another 10% ....
I wonder if you could sell that information to those maroons that work at the Audi Engineering Dept.

As for the chip, APR and Neuspeed have been tuning Audi 1.8T's and 2.0T ECU's for a good 10 years with very real and substansial gains.

25% substantial ??
I know those companies and I don't think that they can crank up an engine just by changing the ECM ??
I have not one but 3 mechanical engineers in the family and we've had this discussion many times but let's leave them out of this.
Think for a minute just what an ECM does. Can it make the valves change size ? Can it raise the compression ratio ? Can it change the cam profile ?
All the ECM can do is play around with the timing of certain events taking place in the motor.
No matter how many graphs and pictures of guys in lab coats they show you it is physically impossible to squeeze 25% more HP from an engine without changing some componenets and 25% is a lofty target.
As for GTI and AUdi's being alike ....I've had both and believe me a Volkswagen is not an Audi no matter how many parts you see under the hood with 4 interlocked circles. Fit and finsh is just one difference.
