should've just bought a Corolla.

eww, besides to get one with leather and all would cost similar, and VW is way better.

Lay off the crack pipe

don't be a hater because you don't own one.

I'm not being a hater.
I don't want to own a VW Jetta or any other VW for that matter.

bet you would want to own that $90,000 one.

Between a Corolla and VW, if one has to break down, probability says the VW will. 😛

The Phaeton ?
I'd spend half that on the new LEXUS GS Hybrid and put the rest towards a house.

OH NOESSSSSSSSSS you bought teh corrola?!

except, its german, and looks like a mercedes on the inside whereas corollas fall apart on the inside.

Actually I'd argue otherwise, I had a Corrola as a replacement car for a while. Unlike Corrolas, Jettas have a terrible maitenance record.

He has an IS300

And VW sucks. My fiancee has a Passat, I look forward to the day we get rid of it.

oh come on, VW are great under the hood, and keep the most value.

Not to rain on your parade...but:

Consumer Reports
The all-wheel drive Volkswagen Passat received the lowest reliability rating of any vehicle in the survey

A spokesman for Volkswagen of America did not deny that the company's products have had problems.

"We are obviously aware of some of these issues," he said.

The company has been working to track and correct reliability problems, he said, adding that customers should see results in upcoming redesigned 2005 versions of several of its cars.

article

Don't get me wrong...it is possible that the new Jetta will be more reliable...but going on recent history, VW's have been pretty piss poor reliability to wise and the track record of some VW's my friends own definitely backs that up.

oh man...enough with these comments already. the mk5 jetta might look a bit like the corolla on the outside...but on the inside its a whole different and 10x better car with a much better drive

I'd choose the corolla over the VW. Toyota engines are top notch and are more fuel efficient. But do worry about it. Just drive what you want. who cares whatr people say as long as your happy.

Shouldnt have posted it here...a lot of VW haters.

And tlam617 - the VW 2.0T is an excellent engine...read up on it and stop posting crap, k?

You're an idiot.

VW engines have been top-notch for many, many years. It's their ELECTRICAL problems that leave much to be desired.

Before bashing a car company at least do a little research.

I don't think he mentioned engines anywhere in his post. A lot of companies have had reliable engines for many years...often times what makes them reliable or not is there electric components...which you yourself are saying are less then superb on the VW. So his comment that the VW is more likely to breakdown still stands.

So instead you purchase the car that looks like one everybody else has?

Bah, beat me to it.

I don't question that the Jetta is by far the nice car. But, reliability and the fact that it looks like a chrome'd up Corolla is enough reason for me not to purchase one. I wouldn't buy a Corolla either though.

None the less, congrats on the ride and enjoy.
