Wow, still on the third one? Unbelievable........ It definitely seems like all July A02's have a MAJOR issue regarding the DVI. Almost like an incorrect or extremely cheap component is being installed in the monitor. Of course most people will never notice, since the average joe only uses VGA. Basically though, Dell is shipping out mass quantities of defective monitors and they need to fix this problem ASAP. This actually borders on illegal in my opinion, because the monitor is advertised as HAVING DVI capability, but the DVI is obviously not working correctly.

I totally agree. I don't know if Dell knows this or not to be honest, but I think they do. However, they don't want to do anything because they have produced so many of them. They will lose so much money if they have to replace/destroy all of them. Like you said, most people won't notice it because they are using VGA(well, I have problem with VGA as well) or most people are not as "picky" as we are. However, I can't stand something not working 100% while I paid over $400 for it.

I wonder if the 2405fpw has the same problem. I heard the 2001 has this problem as well. Man, I don't like this! What would you suggest us to do...

I was on the phone with Dell customer "care" at lunch trying to give them the serial no. of the replacement that I got on Wednesday so that they can send out another replacement(I started this process yesterday). So, I just told the lady that I just needed to give her the serial no. so that she can finish the dispatch process and send me another replacement. She kept missing my points and I kept telling her that I just needed to give her the serial no. since I already started this process yesterday and the only thing that is missing is the serial no. She kept saying that I had to call technical support in order to do this. And I said no, you don't since I called customer care and the other lady was able to make a request to send me a replacement. At the end, I was so upset that I just hung up.

I don't think outsourcing to another country is a good idea for any companies...especially customer care department. No offense, I have a lot of friends from other countries, but in terms of customer care, they should use Americans if majority of their customers are based in U.S.!!! I am extremel frustrated right now.

I think games will still run fine, the only disadvantage to that is it might lower your FPS slightly. I am still trying to find out how to change that setting on an ATI card.

I had pretty much decided to buy a 2005FPW, but after reading this thread and other similar ones, I'm not so sure... Is it really as bad as it sounds? I can't believe that Dell even sells a product that some people get replaced up to five times! The must cost them a lot of $$$$? It is all disappointing after reading glowing reviews such a this one right here at AnandTech: http://www.anandtech.com/displays/showdoc.aspx?i=2400

But at least Dell pays for the shipping in both directions if you have to have it replaced, right? It's just such a waste of time....

This these horrible customer service ratings don't give me more confidence in them either:

*sigh*

BTW, I just missed the 40% off deal that ended the 26th of July. :( I've been checking for new coupons here: http://www.gottadeal.com/dell.php?category=lcd
Nothing has happened since July 28th though... It seems like they issued a new LCD coupon every 3 to 5 days during July, so I was hoping there'd be a new one any day last week... Was July an exception, or what do they usually do?

my replacement was shipped today. hopefully it will be a good one.

lumbus: have you considered the 2405fpw? it's about $250 more with coupon. i haven't seen as much problem with that monitor compared to the 2005fpw.

I received mine like 2 hours ago. I notice the issue with the wavy lines. I tried the tip offered here at AT, and it worked. At least on the Nvidia cards. You need to go to the display properties of the 2005FPW in the Nvidia drivers. Choose "Screen resolutions and refresh rate" and then click the "Advanced timing" tab. It'll open another window. Under the refresh rate type 73.125 and then apply. It'll change the pixel clock to 146 which is the one that fixes the issue. After that hit apply and, you're good to go. Don't worry if after you apply it reverses back to 119 mhz(pixel rate) it still will apply it. Good luck. It work for m

even though adjusting the settings for nvidia cards will resolve the issue, the monitor is still defective. futhermore, people with ati cards are out of luck, such as me.

ATI cards have an option for Reduced DVI Frequency that should fix it.

My question to you chillie is does that affect game performance? Frames per sec wise?

it didn't fix mine, nor did it fix many others on another forum. it is obviously a common defect on this revision.

JustinSane45 I have not been able to do gaming on it yet. I'm still working, but later on tonight I'll give it a try. Why do you think that it should affect gaming?

Someone said that it would affect the frame rate. But I don't know for sure.

I thought mine was the A02 Revision, but it is the A01 manufactured in March.

I had sent 2 back myself.... The 3rd one was the charm. No backlight bleeding or dead pixels. :) In my case, Dell customer service was great.

I hope everyone gets their issues resolved....

This line problem happened to my dad's plasma. Samsung replaced it with a better model so all was well.

i just discovered something interesting about my 2005fpw which might relate to the scan lines. when i poke the screen in the area of the scan lines, the panel makes a squeaking noise. it sounds like the panel is loose or something.

It does a little but not enough to worry about. This is from Nvidia's site:

"Coordinated Video Timings-Reduced Blanking (CVT-RB) is geared specifically for non-CRT display devices. CVT-RB offers reduced horizontal and vertical blanking periods and allows a lower pixel clock rate and higher frame rates."

Heres the link: http://nvidia.com/object/advanced_timings.html

So having reduced blanking on will increase the FPS but like I said, probably not by very much.
