question for the people who returned this monitor many times. do i send the replacement monitor back and then dell sends me another replacement?

I called Dell up and they are sending me the 2nd replacement. They told me to send the other 2 back once I get the 3rd one.

"myname, I am going to ship you the New Monitor as the Monitor is within 21 days of purchase."

the first monitor i bought was over 3 months ago. (past the 21 days warranty) when asked about the order number, i gave him my replacement number, which i received today. i think rep mistakenly thought i just bought this monitor a couple days ago. this is going to be interesting. 🙂

i guess you can consider this a tip for anyone who is looking for a replacement that is over the 21 days warranty period.

got my 3rd one...this one still has wavy lines...but better than the first 2. However, it has bad backlight problem 🙁 Man...it is not good. I will see what I should do then...

Just to let you know, I am also having this problem on my monitor, and excessive backlight leakage as well. If I get a monitor with no backlight leakage and no dead/stuck pixels, I may just cope with that stupid wavy line.

How do you adjust the pixel clock on the monitor with an ATI card? I have that "reduced DVI timing for high-resolution monitors" option checked, and it doens't work. Is there an option in Powerstrip?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it. It doesn't fix the problem. All it does is make the wavy lines thinner and move faster. They are a little harder to see, but they are definitely still there.

Yep, I tried the Reduced DVI thing and it isn't working for me either.

I am trying to talk to Dell online right now. Let's see what he/she will say...

What revision and when was it produced?

Same as all of you. July A02, Mexico. I received my monitor yesterday. I can't believe it. After 2.5 weeks of waiting, and then a supposed "overnight" delivery that took three days, I finally get a monitor with distortions and backlight leakage!

They didn't really fix anything in this new revision and even introduced new problems. Before it was mainly backlight leakage. Now we get this crap too!

Yep, I hear you. That's why I would like to talk to the rep to see if he/she can send me a new one after the A03 or whatever the new revision is when they come out. I love this monitor exception all these problems.

Please tell us what they say. I really like this monitor, and the wavy lines actually don't bother me so much, but it's just that nagging in the back of my mind that I should get a perfect monitor for what I paid.

Yep yep. I know what you are saying. I am paying $400 for this monitor(I know it is a steal), but it is our hard earned money.

The OP said the the wavy lines are very visible in Battle Field 2.

Sh*t. I was in a rush to take off outta town so I barely got a chance to test my 2005FPW I just received (same story as you guys, A02, waited 2.5 weeks, didnt get overnight as promised, etc etc), so I REALLY hope it doesn't have faint verticle lines. I will definitely keep that in mind and look for it as soon as I get back there, just before my 21 days is up hopefully!

most likely will also suffer the same defect. 🙂

Here is what is happening:

I called Dell and talked to a very helpful rep. I believe that was she. After I explained I have 2 replacements and both of them are doing the exact same thing(wavy lines). She asked me to try the 2nd replacement(3rd monitor) on another computer. So, I tried it on my Dell laptop using VGA. The wavy lines instead of moving upward, they were moving downward. Then, she immediately said that she would send me a replacement AGAIN!

Here is the interesting part. I take her words for it. She said that she would request a "Testing" department to test out the monitor to make sure it has no wavy lines problem before sending it out. So, I told her to even have them check for backlight and dead pixel as well. I asked if Dell do have a "Testing" department for this kind of stuff and she said Yes. So, let's see what will happen. That's all I can report to you so far.

on the refurbished monitor i have received, there's a sticker on the box that is labeled "A". i wounder if that is the quality of the monitor. it still had the wavy lines though.

Even though I've read a lot of great things about the Dell monitors, it makes it very difficult to buy one when I read threads like this one.

These problems are unacceptable & should have been corrected a long time ago. Yes, I'd like to buy a new LCD monitor, but these stories make it very difficult for me to go with Dell.

I'm shocked that these stories continue to spawn this long after the initial problems were reported with the Dell monitors.

I totally agree. I told the rep. that she had to report this problem to her boss and escalate this up to whoever needs to get this problem fixed completely. Man, Dell is not going to make money off of my monitor for sure with all the shipping cost(I might be wrong though 😉 )

You're probably right, or at least pretty darn close to it. They most likely aren't making $200 margin on each monitor. It's probably only a fraction of that.

You would think that a mfg. would acknowledge the number of returns of these monitors & invest the $$$ to have the repeated problems corrected. That is how a good mfg. would rectify the situation.

I think for the most part, Dell is a good company. I think they do have the right intentions. But I don't think Michael Dell is making the right call with his monitors. The fact that the problems continue to repeat themselves is a clear indication that these monitors are NOT his # 1 priority.
