My dad just bought one, he likes it because its fast n' cheap... like mom! *rimshot*
I must say it is a great price for the performance you get, brand new for 17,200. But the interior is kinda "bleh". Just wondering what you all think of the se-r...

Great little car. It's certainly no SRT-4, but it's well-engineered and looks great.

I had a 2000 Sentra GXE for about 3 years, same body style as the 2005. I loved my Sentra.

yeah the interior is kinda blah. mine has starter issues that the dealer refuses to fix. they claim to have put in a new starter. i think it's electrical. the motor is fussy about the gas it gets (read: no sam's or grocery store gas). and the suspension is rather harsh in comparison to my SO's 1.8T jetta. there are a couple of rattles in mine after 20,000 miles, seems to come from the door but i can't isolate it. other than that it works pretty well.

corolla is way too "bleh" and the regular civics aren't peppy enough, and the fugly civic si was another $1000 bucks. I was reeally pushing for the rsx-s but those were 23k... his desire for a peppy import started when he test drove the turbo miata, and who was i to discourage it? =]

Never driven one, but I've heard good things. I'd take one over a comparatively-priced civic or corolla, although a Scion tC might give it a run for its money in my mind.

hey ElFenix about the fussy gas... is 87 octane ok for the spec v? and ya i've heard that mom n pop gas is crap, we usually get mobil or chevron. they (the stealership) recommend premium but say 87 is sufficient. Would we notice a difference in reliability, milage or performance with a quality 91 or is it kinda pointless?

The 2.5L motor will be happy enough with 87.

well technically i only have an SE-R, not a spec-v, so i'm not quite sure. it *should* run fine on 87 according to the manual. i ran 87 from exxon in mine for a year, then started using cheap stuff... after a while with that it started pinging. so i switched to shell v-power, with some techron treatments. after a couple months of that i'm back to name brand 87 without problems.

note: my mom's truck gets the no-name gas, and it pings a lot. i'm waiting for her engine to explode.

basically, try a tank of brand name 87, if you don't hear any pinging you're golden. (pinging sounds like a couple of pennies in a coffee can rattling under your hood).

sentra's resell value is not too good. i'd probably get a matrix/corolla XRS or the brand spanking new civic Si...

but it doesn't really cost that much more to buy a used WRX from there.
