Would we notice a difference in reliability, milage or performance with a quality 91 or is it kinda pointless?
well technically i only have an SE-R, not a spec-v, so i'm not quite sure. it *should* run fine on 87 according to the manual. i ran 87 from exxon in mine for a year, then started using cheap stuff... after a while with that it started pinging. so i switched to shell v-power, with some techron treatments. after a couple months of that i'm back to name brand 87 without problems.
note: my mom's truck gets the no-name gas, and it pings a lot. i'm waiting for her engine to explode.
basically, try a tank of brand name 87, if you don't hear any pinging you're golden. (pinging sounds like a couple of pennies in a coffee can rattling under your hood).
