Back on the topic about hp in the GM 3.8 V6 and the other 3.5l japanese V6.

The GM V6 is an 'old' design with pushrods and 2 valve/scyl vs. the 3.5 probably has 4 valves/cyl. This is important to take into consideration.
The 4 valve design has more valve area than the 2 valve design ---> the 4 valve breathes better ie. will pump more air to the engine ---> more power at higher rpm.

I just have one thing to say - ickity yickity. Who in their right mind would pay that money for that POS which will likely self destruct in less than 8 years. Just plain nuts.

Sounds like you are bashing this car just because it's American made. I agree that the Japanese make better cars, but you could at least be a little more open-minded. Are you a US citizen? If so, how about showing a little support for your country and the people who work in the US car industry.

Tell that to the LS1 F-Bodies and Corvettes.

looks nice, but a 4 speed auto isnt this like 1985 standard with this tap shift maybe even 1990 - they seriously need to catch up to automotive standards...

1985 was 3 speed chief. 4 speed auto is still standard considering 5 speed is damn new

My '87 Sunbird had a 3-speed automatic. Neons up until just a year ago or so had 3-speed automatics. 5-speed autos didn't become prevelant until the later half of the 90's (I remember the '97 Explorer getting one was a big deal). 6-speed automatics just now have started coming out and only mostly then in luxury cars (Audi, Mercedes, Benz, Jaguar).

Most American cars/trucks have 4-speed automatics with mainly the luxury marques getting 5-speeds (Caddy CTS & Lincoln LS).

if you're talking bmw 7 series then yes, those have had 5 speed automatics for a while (and just now 6 speed). a 5 speed auto is also generally larger than a 4 speed auto designed to take the same amount of torque, you can't really make it less beefy. so maybe if you're running less power through it the transmission can be made smaller, but how much smaller can you get?

looking at ford's uk website they don't show how many gears the auto for the ka and fiesta have. the mondeo has 4 and a 5 speed with a brand name on it. so thats probably new.

If so, how about showing a little support for your country and the people who work in the US car industry.
I'll show some support when they start making a product that deserves it. We seem to be able to make competitive products in every area except autos. Not only are they of poor quality in terms of engineering and construction but, for the most part, they are butt-ugly as well. If I were to throw my money at US car-makers for building crap, then they would be encouraged to persist in building crap. Hence, I am supporting the future of US automaking by not buying the craptacular, self-destructing, gas-guzzling, eye-sores that they are presently cranking out. Does that answer your question?
I work in health care, and in the US we set the standard for the rest of the world. Therefore I have little tolerance for segments of our economy where mediocrity (perhaps worse) is encouraged and supported. Our auto-makers need to get a clue...and quick.
