It was a 4-banger EX model.
Huh, thats close enough to what I have. It is a big car though and small cars tend to be more fun to blast around in.
you have an Accord now???
anyway, my co-worker has a i4 Accord coupe, it felt VERY torquey for a 4 banger...

Sorry been out of it, yeah I have a 2003 accord now, the engine is pretty strong down low. Never minding the factory specs, dynos say it makes max TQ at just above 2500 rpms. One day at a stoplight I decided to stomp on the gas and I was spinning my tires for a good 5 seconds or so.

You said this, not me....."This WILL be my next car. I don't care what else come out. I WILL be buying this car within the next 6 months."

Real world considerations take precident over enthusiasm. I'd STILL love to get the Mazda 3s, but only after the prices come down a bit. If Toyota can make the Scion tC cheaper with better features, I'd be crazy not to consider it.

NFS4 - aren't you from around the Raleigh area? My gf is looking for a 3 and we checked out some at the Mazda dealer in the Cary town center. They had quite a few stickered pretty low...

I went to Mazda of Cary when they first got them (post is about a 100 back;)). All of the ones I saw were $17,000+ including the 3i models. The last one I looked at was last week in Burlington. It was a 3s with two options (6-disc and automatic transmission). It was $18,300.

I LOVE the Mazda 3s, but I don't love it at $18,000+ as much though. Give 'em a year to work out bugs and bring out the rebates.

yeah really. i managed to get the first test drive in houston (happened to be out that day and drove up to the dealer just after they'd come off the truck, hadn't been stickered yet so technically illegal to drive). really nice inside, good engine... but damn those things are expensive.

I am sitting tight. If Mazda6 is any indication, I would wait for at least $1500 in rebates before jumping on one. I want one, but no way in hell I am paying over invoice for one.

Very nice car. I would say it is easily one of the best econo imports out there.
I would take it over almost all other imports, but not over a subaru.

A turbocharged awd mazda3? Sounds good to me :D
An awd/turbo neon is also coming out in either 2005/06, cant say it will look as good as the mazda3, but the more competition the better.

2006 Pontiac Solstice - it will be mine. Oh yes. It will be mine.
^ new link with high-res photos!

It is a nice looking car.

Also the 2005 Stang is a sharp looking auto as well.

I would say the Mazda3 is probbably the best new car to come out this year, followed closely by the GTO.

Link to Mazda Media, with hi-res photos (zipped .eps, you may need ghostview, anything from Adobe, or good graphic software since MS refuses to deal with .ps/.eps), specs (torque & power curves), info on designers, and the bla-bla-bla all journalists just copy to put in their articles. The photos are mainly those in catalogs, websites, etc...

Been driving my Mazda 3 s 4 doors version for 3 weeks. It's great!!

Bought a Grey Color Mazda 3 S w/ ABS package, Sport Package and the Moonroof/6CD changer package.

HOWEVER problem started showing up last night..... Airbag light, Brake light and ABS light came on, after restarted my car, Airbag light and brake light disappear, but ABS light still on. Backed up my car from the driveway, stepped my brake once, and ABS light disappear. I don't know what's going on w/ my car, but I just called the dealer for a service appointment scheduled next week.

That's terrible beyonddc. I read about similar problems, in some forum somewhere. At least you are not alone and the dealers will know how to solve the problem. I have an old Mazda, and the stiches in the seats started to come apart. They replaced while under warranty, but it hapened again and now they are all bad. Apart from that, it has been solid at 90000 miles...
