Go here for pics of the sedan:

The sedan is off the hook. Definitely would pick it over a Corolla, Civic or Sentra.

By early 2005, performance junkies can expect a turbocharged Mazdaspeed 3 sports compact that should pump out at least 200 horsepower (or up to 240, if Mazda decides to offer an all-wheel-drive version). The hotted-up 3 should be followed by Mazdaspeed's take on the mid-size 6.

I'll take a more reliable Honda or Toyo... I'd never get a FordZda car ;)

it does look nice, but looks are only fender deep :)

and when is this hitting showrooms? I'm going to be looking for a car in a few months, and currently the 9-3 is at the top of my list...but then I also like the new Accord and 6, along with the future 9-2 (when's that hitting, too?)

Agh, decisions. :)

That looks badass for an "entry level" car.

Will this most likely be as reliable as Civic/Corolla have been?

There's really no way to answer that question since this is a new model on an entirely new platform. However, small Mazdas have been fairly reliable in the past, so the best answer is "probably".

Ok thanks, wasn't sure if this was built on the Protege platform or not.

As much as I love hatchbacks, I personally think the sedan looks waaaaaaaaaaaay better than the hatch.

There's something too Pontiac-ish about it. :(

Pontiac-ish??? The Mazda3 hatch looks like a Nissan Murano from the front doors back.

Pros - Mazdas lineup looks sick, definitely breaking the mold compared to other japanese automakers. Compare the looks of this 3 to say, a new Civic. The Civic is a joke compared to this. Awesome bodywork, Mazda

Cons - The cars are starting to look the same :( The sedan looks like a smaller 6, And the 6 shares many similarities with the RX8 (which isn't that bad honestly). I hope Mazda doesn't make all of their cars with the same style head and tail lights...

The overall shape also resembles a Pontiac Vibe.

Right, because that would have required actually reading the article. ;) :D

I like it. My new-to-me 2001 Protege ES has made me a Mazda fan all over again. I've also had an 84' GLC (slow but good handling made it fun for me at 18-19) and an '87 626 Turbo (pretty quick, big tires and fat sway bars made it handle pretty well, the Saab-style 5-door fastback body made it almost as useful as a wagon).
