Edit: 350Z killer? Try Z28.

And the engine isn't a "Chrystler 3.5", it's a "Mercedes 3.2"

I don't think that NE1 said that the engine was Chrysler's 3.5.

TheDarlWolf said that the Chrysler 3.5 was too rough for this car, and the Merc 3.2 was too weak.

[DuffMan]Oh yeah!!!![/DuffMan] 😀
DC is starting to make some nicely styled and hopefully well-engineered cars. For a DD, the Crossfire would rock... Hemi SRT version plz! 😀

And about the Razor coming at advertised price? Wow, that would rock my world. 😀😀😀

well, it will be a project car, for, from what I understand, it will be barebones, - perhaps, not even AC

Even so, if they can do 250 horses for $14,500 they will sell those things like CRAZY. They might be able to do it.

The Neon SRT-4 uses the same engine and it's less than $20K. It also comes with A/C, CD Player, power doors/windows/locks, keyless entry, alarm etc., not to mention that it's a four-door sedan.

Now look at the Razor. It's smaller and it's only a two-seater. Assuming they use "off-the-shelf" parts for the suspension, tranny, etc. and all the money they'd save by cutting out the convenience features, I think it's actually possible.

Young people would buy them and customize them, and older people might just buy them for a "fun" car considering how cheap they are.

The same engine? The Crossfire uses a Mercedes engine and it's RWD.

My bad 🙁.

No problem... although I wish they were selling the Crossfire for $14,500!! 😉 Although the Razor (and the Neon SRT-4) would probably be faster. :Q

You do provide good reasoning, however, I doubt that the market niche is large enough to grant reasonable profits with a low profit margin, and I doubt that the company will actually want to sell it at that price, even if they could

we'll just have to wait and see

Good points also. Small cars are generally sold at a loss or a razor-thin profit margin, so driving the price down further may not be that simple. And you're right, they might not want to make one of their best-performing cars also their cheapest, because they would definitely cannibalize some of the sales of their other performance models.

Still, isn't Kia's entire lineup priced under $14,500? And they're still in business. (kidding 😉)

Ah, glad to finally see it in production. My best friend worked for Daimler/Chrysler designing this baby. 😀

any inside info? as to expected build quality?

NFS4:

Did you even READ the article? The car is basically a Mercedes SLK (engine, chassis, suspension, brakes, safety equipment, transmission, interior) with a different body and is built in Germany by Karmann.

I can't say that I like it. For that price, I'd rather get a G35, 350Z, or step up a bit in price for next year's C6 Vette or a Z4. IMO, it's ugly.

Edit: And oh yeah, to whoever posted a pic of the Solstice, that is one sexy looking car.

I'd love to see the Razor as a limited production or factory special order... for a person like me a turbocharged, light nimble RWD roadster that's even cheaper than a Miata with nearly twice the power? Heck, yeah... this thing would be almost unfair on the autoX course with an LSD.

And for 14Gs... I'd be upgrading the living snot out of it to be track capable in no time. Screw the AC, radio, etcetc... extra weight! I bet the SCCA will LOVE classing this baby alongside cars like the FD3S RX7, C5 and other A Stock class beasts. Even for $17k, it's a steal.

😉😛

It's basically a Mercedes with a different body. I'd place Mercedes above Audi/VW in reliability/quality (minus interiors).

Uh, that was a joke

From Edmunds' preview at the 2001 Detroit auto show
Why should you care?
Honestly, you shouldn't. Chrysler is hemorrhaging; money, job and factory cuts are imminent; and there isn't an icicle's chance in Tucson that the Crossfire will be produced. We already know the company can make a competent sports car (witness the 2003 Viper), and nothing about the Crossfire, except for the EVIC, is groundbreaking. So move on to something else, pal.
Remind me never to ask Edmunds.com about whether or not a vehicle will go into production.
