I could belive that. I work at, well, lets just call it a gambling establishment. I was just told that one of the refugees just showed up with their FEMA card and was attempting to get money from the ATM to gamble with.
Well let's think about this for a minute...
If these "poor" people made good financial decisions then they wouldn't be poor anymore.
Hence one can deduce that the ability to make good financial decisions or anything concerning money is going to be very, very, very lacking.

yeah i was against them getting it also. I'm sorry you lost loved ones in it. But it is no excuse to make millions on.
What really made me mad is they were complaining it was NOT ENOUGH!
As for the refugges getting $50k thats silly. Why should they get 2-5 years worth of income? I have no trouble putting them up and helping them get food, clothes etc. BUT $50k!? hell no.
IF i lose my house due to a tornado (got home owners insurance oops! that wont work) or something the goverment is no going to give me 2-5 years worht of income! thats just insane.
If you've read any of my other posts, I'm as apathetic about poor people as anyone. However, even I have to question the credibility of this post. Could it be true? Absolutely. But I still would like to hear it from a more reliable source than someone's blog before forming any rash opinions.
To answer the OP, I'll fall in line with everyone else -- with only $2000, obviously necessities are first priority: food, clothes, water, shelter.
You are a product of your enviorment. You CANNOT tell me that all these racial stereotypes are because they of their skin color, or that their ancestors were from Africa. The majority of posters in this thread are dirtbags. That's all.

Highly doubtful. It will most certainly be spent on non-necessity items. That's how they live. The gubment takes care of all life necessities so whenever they get cash they immediately spend it on luxury/entertainment items. This simple fact of how welfare/poor operate cannot be ignored. There have been countless studies on this very behavior.
They will buy beer, cigarettes, and McDonalds.
I would use it to buy stuff for the house I would be building with my insurance check.

While I wouldn't give these people $50k, I do agree our priorities are fvcked up. The military takes far too large of a chunk of our budget.
So they wouldn't sue Dick and Dubya for their total lack of competence and negligence of their duties.
