Well let's think about this for a minute...

If these "poor" people made good financial decisions then they wouldn't be poor anymore.

Hence one can deduce that the ability to make good financial decisions or anything concerning money is going to be very, very, very lacking.

So I believe the article. They'll just blow it on useless stuff.

I could belive that. I work at, well, lets just call it a gambling establishment. I was just told that one of the refugees just showed up with their FEMA card and was attempting to get money from the ATM to gamble with.

Yep, America is fscked.

when America ends just imagine what happens to the rest of the world. I'm predicting the reset button is about to be pushed real soon.

Something needs to happen.

We can't continue like this....

Society would crumble if any wide-spread natural disaster or foreign attack happened....

at least, apparently. The state of affairs down there is just... fscking sad and disgusting.

So basically all the responsible people who evacuated get nada and have to pay for hotels etc. And all the idiots who wait on the feds to air lift them out of their rocking chairs get free room and board and $2k?

There is something very wrong with this situation. These people will never learn if you hand them money to reward them for their stupidity.

They are going to blow it on crap. Like they have done with all their money for their entire lives. They are poor and continue to stay poor for very good reasons.

$50 grand

HELL no.

Why did 9/11 families get millions?

yeah i was against them getting it also. I'm sorry you lost loved ones in it. But it is no excuse to make millions on.

What really made me mad is they were complaining it was NOT ENOUGH!

As for the refugges getting $50k thats silly. Why should they get 2-5 years worth of income? I have no trouble putting them up and helping them get food, clothes etc. BUT $50k!? hell no.

IF i lose my house due to a tornado (got home owners insurance oops! that wont work) or something the goverment is no going to give me 2-5 years worht of income! thats just insane.

If you've read any of my other posts, I'm as apathetic about poor people as anyone. However, even I have to question the credibility of this post. Could it be true? Absolutely. But I still would like to hear it from a more reliable source than someone's blog before forming any rash opinions.

To answer the OP, I'll fall in line with everyone else -- with only $2000, obviously necessities are first priority: food, clothes, water, shelter.

You are a product of your enviorment. You CANNOT tell me that all these racial stereotypes are because they of their skin color, or that their ancestors were from Africa. The majority of posters in this thread are dirtbags. That's all.

QFT.

The only problem is that once they're done blowing the debit card on iPod's and Phat Farm jeans, they're just going to come back and beg the relief agencies for more donation money.

Seriously... This idea is about is good as giving some alcoholic bum on the street 20 bucks to spend on a few bottles of cheap whiskey. If you REALLY want to help these people, get them a JOB!

You honestly think these people are going to make the proper decision?

Highly doubtful. It will most certainly be spent on non-necessity items. That's how they live. The gubment takes care of all life necessities so whenever they get cash they immediately spend it on luxury/entertainment items. This simple fact of how welfare/poor operate cannot be ignored. There have been countless studies on this very behavior.

What would you buy?

They will buy beer, cigarettes, and McDonalds.

I would use it to buy stuff for the house I would be building with my insurance check.

not everyone gets $2 grand, depends on how many kids you have. say ya have no kids, you would get around $320, not a lot to start your life over. they should give these poor folks $50 grand, we can spend a million dollars on a missle that we shoot into a mountain, i'm sure the govt can afford to give more.

$50,000? So if you were renting a $300 a month apartment, owned no car, you should get $50,000 grand for being displaced?

I only read that $2000 debit cards were being given out, and it was 1 per household.

While I wouldn't give these people $50k, I do agree our priorities are fvcked up. The military takes far too large of a chunk of our budget.
