2000 Corvette vs 3.0 Z4 on a curvy track

An ex-bf of a girl I'm talking to, he see's that I have a z4 and starts leaving comments on her page that I drive a chicks car and that its slow and a piece of shit. I see that he has a black 2000 Corvette with like an 8pound turbo and some slotted brakes.

My friend has a 99 vette, that while quicker off the line and obviously a bit faster, I have no problem hanging with. and I KNOW my car handles much much better than the vette.

So I'm curious.. Around a curvy track where brute force isn't as much of a factor as in the 1/4, what do you think would win? Topgear has a video of a z4M, which has about 75 more HP than my car, which ties a newer viper around a curvy track because the z4 handled so much better. The z4 was able to fly through the turns and the Viper, not so much.

I'm thinking, while I don't have an M series, it's not that much faster than my car (which is the fastest non-M z4 you can buy), and a viper should kill the vette, especially a 2000 model, I'd (assuming I can drive) wouldn't have a problem coming out ahead..

????
 
Vette's are great track cars, you're smoking some good crack if you think you could beat a forced induction C5 vette around anything, straight, curvy, backwards... HAHAHAH.

The z4m actually was a bit faster than the corvette around the track when top gear timed them... it was right below a lamborghini... Granted, I only have the fastest non M z4, but the m edition isn't that much faster.

M has tons of upgrades, though. New suspension, tires, brakes, steering.
 
You don't seriously think a Z4 could hang with either a Vette OR a Viper on a track, do you? With equal drivers in both cars, it wouldn't even be close.....now add the turbo to the Vette and it's REALLY not close.

It's damned close, and more forgiving.

A non-M Z4 is a very nice little car, but with equal drivers, it's in no way even remotely close to being able to take even a stock MT C5 around a road course. The C5, despite being a big looking vehicle, is ~3200lbs, only a couple hundred more than a Z4, but the balance is astonishingly good. Put some power mods on the Vette and it only shows its strengths more.

The BF with the Vette is being a douche, but the cold hard facts are these :

Z4 = Better luxury/class car than C5 Vette.
Z4 = Not as quick or as nimble as a C5 Vette (straights *or* road course)
Z4M = A good match, probably edge a stock C5.
Z4 vs. turbo C5 = no contest
Z4 vs. C5 Z06 = no contest
BF = douche

Well, I have a buddy who has a 99 vette and he knows how to drive. He stayed ahead of me but I was always within a car lenght.. that was head to head down a high way.

Oh, i know.. I'm just curious. I love my car. Funny thing is I've been planning on trading it in on an 07/08 vette next year. I like the newer ones.

 
You keep up with a vette on the highway? maybe if he is an auto and a convertible and can't drive for shit.

Any C5 vette is a mid low 13 second car in the 1/4 mile and will have a 170+ top end. Your friend can't drive if you can somehow keep up with him on the highway.

I actually love my car. one of the reasons I posted this was because I'm coming into some money soon (company I have stock in is getting bought out) and I was thinking about getting a new vette. I was equally as curious to see what peoples opinions were pitting my current car vs a car that will cost twice as much. (mine was 36)

$36k is easily doable in a Z4, those options can absolutely murder you from BMW. Unless I misunderstand your meaning.

yea it was.. well, 35k and change after tax, etc. . It's the most fully loaded z4 (non M) you can buy for that year. It has the bigger rims and run flats, xeon headlights, dream leather interior, sport package, electric top, premium stereo, 3.0 liter engine, etc. It only had 18k miles, is certified, etc.. I love it. It's so fun to drive. I just turned over 51k miles in less than 2 years of owning it.
