20 California Students suspended for viewing Myspace profile

Some parents, however, questioned whether the school overstepped its bounds by disciplining students for actions that occurred on personal computers, at home and after school hours.

You think? 😛

Yeah, an invasion of privacy. Because solliciting murderous threats however obviously benign to us they may be and posting anti-semitic rants about someone on the school's computers ... which I'm sure there is a laundry list of regulation in the TOS that each and every student signed is grounds for a suit...

this state is getting crazier by the minute!

California is the most populated state in the nation. Of course there will be incidents like these every so often.

Maybe my reading comprehension is lacking, but where did it say this was posted on the school's computers again?

😕

wtf....the school is insane. I smell a suit coming in. suspended for "viewing" ? these things are getting more and more out of control.

This will result in a lawsuit.

I guess expressing your hate isn't covered under the first. Death threats are a different thing though.

Yup, don't post anything about race/creed on the intarweb. They are pursuing this as a hate crime because of an anti-semitic comment.

Police are investigating the boy's comments about his classmate at TeWinkle Middle School as a possible hate crime, and the district is trying to expel him.

THe issue is that they JOINED A GROUP, not viewed his profile.

Is it illegal to join a group that says I hate blah blah? Just because one member/founder crossed the line and posted death threats doesn't mean you blame the whole group.

Ah, I thought it said on school computers after school hours. That's a horse of a different colour.

WTF?
I looked around for something that would justify the school's actions but it turns out they are just retarded..........

How do all these illiterate people get on the internet?

Zzz.

I searched for myspace. I'm sorry he titled his topic in a way that didn't allow me to find it. You want to go dip our cocks in oil and rub them together? I don't know if I'd feel better, but I bet you'd be real happy. I'm willing to try.
