1. Running up to your vehicle and ripping the thief out of your brand new hippie wagon since it goes so damn slow!

2.People wont steal them because geo metros are just as ugly and can go faster!

3.If you cant chase the culprate down and rip him out of it the batteries will automatically die. Its only made to go 20 feet.

And they didnt even tell you about the insurance. It is only 5 dollars a year, the insurance companies know that if you get in an accident with one of those, YOUR DEAD ANYWAY.

Jk, I cant wait till I see an offroad version of it on ebay :p

I disagree. I don't think 39 mpg is "just nuts."

See my above response.

I think paying $20k+ for the hybrid equivalent of a $13k Civic is nuts. Do the math on how much gas you can buy with that $7k+.

Civics for $13k, where ;), most nicely equiped ones I know are $15-$17k+. Most people I know get them for $17-$20 out the door so the hybrids aren't that expensive. From what I learned they will probably around $3K+ more than the average price of the regular equivalent. And best of all you get to ride in the Carpool lane with a single person (at least here in SoCal).
Hey, don't pick on the Escape. We have one, nice people carrier with offroading capabilities (not strong but can go some places most wagons can't). Anyhow how many people who have Explorers, Suburban, Land Rovers, etc and take them off roading? Most of them are glorified wagons that look nice.
BTW back on the subject of these GEM cars aren't they this price at CostCo. Seen a few and they are decent sized. From what I know City of Industry, CA CostCo acutally sold a few and someone has seen them on the road there (not that I've seen any).

ME! ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME! :p

Seriously, my Explorer is old enough it can actually offroad well enough to get around here. It's not a true offroad vehicle, but when there's a flood and the road's washed out (or when that group of kids came, crashed their Suburban offroading and their friend broke his leg) it works plenty fine.

Well my friend bought the top of the line one for $18-$19 out the door (tax, licence, alarm, etc) and she got it as a great deal. This was in 1995 I think and the sad thing was it didn't even have a tape player (it was either a AM/FM or crappy overpriced CD player, remember a few years back people were paying $500+ for a single in dash CD player). I got a Mustang then with power everything and a tape player for $19k out the door and she was real bitter about that.

Simple - the civic is still running with no rattles or oil burned, the mustang isn't running, unless it was VERY well cared for.

1976: Q: "Why in gawd's name would anyone create a vehicle like the el dorado? - it handles like a bus, drinks gas like nothing short of an army tank, and is so GM-ButtF&ckin' ugly only a mother could love it..."
A: "Cuz GM (et al) hasn't run out of people stupid enuf to buy them yet.

i.e., everything old is new again: please buy another S (oh my gawd, I'm dying on this part) UV. If not for your stupid ass, the US auto industry would be non-existant.

(and I'm sorry for replying to this ridiculous thread)

GEM Electric Vehicle for $2,995 (NY dealers only)
You know, I think you can get a two-seater for the same price here in LA.

I asked a guy that was driving one as I passed him running :p and he told me he had paid $2,900 in a dealership in West LA.

If I buy one, I'll have the door option. Not for security, but my experience with Motorcycle/Bike/Skate here in LA tells me that I get stinky when exposed to the air in the streets. Can't really explain why, but the same will happen if I walk too much. I noticed the same with my son and my wife. I guess the air is stinky here, maybe it's the special additive in the gas.

Good reason to go electric huh?

Both were well taken care of but sadly her's needed a new paint job last year (cheap Honda paint that's too thin to stay on) and she's had problems with brake system leaking or something (really bad). I've only had a problem with my alternator and that was covered under warranty, my paint is still great after all these years of abuse and my brakes lasted me an unbelieveable 60k miles with no problems. So it's sometimes a matter of luck. My cuz now drives my 95 (19 year old male with a major accident his insurance is outrageous) and I happily drive a 2002 Stang. Now no matter what if I had the $17k+ to spend on a Civic I would of rather bought an Accord, oh well.

WoundedWallet, of course the air in LA is stinky, we are the Smog capital of the world. Isn't that a title that makes you hold your head up and and breathe in deeply :D
BTW the door doesn't help. I saw one of these at a Dodge dealer and the Gem is built like one of those old Army style Jeeps and not really sealed tight, so unfortuneatly it won't keep out the smells. Another cool fact is that some places, like a community in Orange County (can't remember where) now has lanes, bike lanes, widened so you can drive these carts... *cough* vehicles on the streets. It's good because alot of places in SoCal have speed limits above 35mph and very pushy drivers ;)

Not positive, but isn't 25 mph close to worlds fastest human speed? Either you were really moving or he wasn't :)

Ok you got me, I can't run half block and I'm already dialing 911. Yes he was stuck on the light and I was walking the dog.

The Straight Story

Directed by David Lynch?!?!?!?!

Sure was directed by David Lynch, I remember being astounded when I saw that on the movie poster when it came out. One of my top 10 movies of the 90s, easily. AWESOME movie though definitely not for everyone's taste.
