2 Katyusha Rockets Hit Haifa

Hizbullah terrorists fired a long-range missile at the major Israeli port city of Haifa Thursday evening. Tzfat and Nahariya were struck again as well, causing scores of injuries.


A simultaneous wave of missiles struck Tzfat and Nahariya at around 7:30. Twenty people were injured in Tzfat - one seriously and three moderately. As the 8 PM news programs began and Israelis prepared to break the Fast of the 17th of Tamuz, two long-range missiles struck Haifa - though no injuries resulted.

Throughout Thursday, nearly 100 Katyusha missiles were fired at various towns and cities in northern Israel, injuring 90 people and killing two.

Eleven people were wounded lightly by shrapnel in the latest attack on Nahariya. One rocket hit a multi-level apartment house and a second destroyed a house. Residents have been ordered to remain in shelters and a small fire is raging in one of the town's parks.

In the eastern Galilee, rockets hit Rosh Pina and Hatzor, as well as Tzfat ? which was struck earlier in the day as well.

In Judea and Samaria, Arabs threw rocks and firebombs at Israeli targets Thursday afternoon and also fired at Israeli soldiers. No one was injured.

Rocks were thrown at Israeli vehicles in Samaria, and a firebomb was thrown at a bus near Bethlehem.

IDF soldiers found ammunition and weapons in an Arab car at a checkpoint west of Hevron. The driver was arrested and is being interrogated.

No doubt the world will tell Israel to bend over because its attackers dared to take off their uniforms. Oh wait, Kofi Annan already did that.

Actually, they're WWII weapons... as is the nuclear bomb mind you. But since you speak so offhand about WWI weapons, and their capability to hurt people, why don't you go ahead, take a Colt M1911, stick it into your mouth, and pull the trigger.

You think they had "rockets" in WWI?

Anyways ask the Germans what they felt about these things on the Eastern Front.
WWII tech or not, these can cause some damage.

 
I believe knives have been around for over two thousand years. We?ve obviously moved beyond caring about those silly old harmless things. 😕

Edit: And you're right, the weapon was designed in 1938 not 1918. Nice Katyusha v. Nukes argument. They're exactly the same.
 
Katyusha just means an unguided artillery rocket. Certainly no more pleasant than having an artillery shell land on your house.

I find it odd that they consider these to be 'Long Range' in that they con only go about 3 1/2 miles from the launcher.

More likely that they are using a more modern projectile derivative from the mid 60's of Chinese of Soviet Eastern Bloc
origin that has a range of 20 - 30 miles, we used to get these air-mailed to us occasionally in Cam Rahn Bay from Nha Trang.
 
It seems that Haifa was attacked after Israel attacked Beirut(well, the international airport anyway), which Hezbollah had warned them not to do(Beirut that is). Seems like Hezbollah is just keeping their promise of attacking Haifa should Beirut be attacked.
 
Seems the violence is just escalating. They keep this up for more than a week and Lebanon will be back in the 1980s again.

Should that occur I wouldn't count out yet another Israeli Arab war. I don't see the Arabs winning either.

You can also easily kill someone with a rock, which was invented say..... 5,000,000,000 years ago give or take 1000.

Hezbollah has over 15,000 rockets in their inventory as well as enough ammo to last them in their fighting with Israel if they wish to invade. It'll turn into Iraq. Hit and run tactics. Unless Hezbollah is stupid and wishes to fight the Israeli army head on in the open.

Does Hezbollah have have roadside bombs to take out invading Israeli tanks? I'm sure they have plenty of RPGs from Iran and Syria.

I dunno about their yield but I certainly wouldn't want one fired in my direction.

As for what Hezbollah will do vs Israeli tanks, from what I've read they have deep minefields set up all over the place, the 4 soldiers killed the other day were killed by an antitank mine.
 
It's interesting to see some of the partisans reflexively try to downplay the rocket attacks... zealots are such a waste, even those on these boards

The original Katyusha rockets were ~120mm in diameter, and packed a 92-lb explosive charge.

If you can call 92 lbs of high explosives, coming at you from above at >100m/s a "joke", then I have nothing further.

How much damage do you think they should do? They KILL PEOPLE - isn't that enough damage? Do they have to level a house.
Christ, any explosive devise that showers the immediate area with shrapnel has the potential to kill anyone within that footprint,
be it a mortar round, Katy rocket, or your generic 'Bouncing Betty' anti personel land mine.
