IIRC they do have explosive or canister (shotgun-esque) rounds in addition to SABOT and HEAT. But they also have machine guns. And remember, unlimited ammo.

And what would the cavalrymen do when they actually got to the tank? Hit it with sticks? The most they might be able to do is immobilize it by putting crap in the tracks, but the tank can't be disabled. I mean, it can get hit from any angle by anti-tank missiles and such and survive.

Tanks, and if yu say otherwise.... c`mon.
The .50cal + the coaxial and teh MainGUN with HE rounds....done

HE rounds aren't really effective against infantry. Sure, it'll kill, but not nearly as effective as caseshot. A lot of people seem to forget about the canister rounds. The US Army still uses them, just not often because we don't like throwing tanks against infantry as it's generally not a good idea. That and there often isn't a lot of fighting on wide open flat ground. In a city, a tank would be taken out by far less than 10000 people if they had any explosives. But in the wide open, the tank's got the distance advance due to being able to effectively fire out to longer distances, giving them an advance that only mechanical failure could strip away. Or anti-armor weaponry, but it's not mentioned if the cavalrymen have that kind of weaponry.

Ask the Polish calvary that question.

to be fair, they weren't properly armed. but still...

Thats true, I forgot about the canister shot... last time i heard of it was WWII (FIAT tanks used it alot).
The urban aspect has to be taken in relation too, I agree.
My context was in a open battlefield (like cavalry was used) and for what Tanks were mainly created.
Tanks are an evolution of cavalry.... correct?

forget the Abrams tanks.

lets replace them with a pair Bolo Mark XXVIII Tanks. :D

and lets replace the Chinese calvary with the entire Chinese military.

Now let the fun begin!

tanks are not invincible.
I imagine with 10,000 people there'd be at least one strategic mastermind that could lure the tanks into a trap.

Tank, obviously. In theory the tank could run down the horses without ever firing its gun. The cavalry will never do anything to the tank. The hatch can't just be magically forced open.

Calvarymen of course. Just make a circle around the tanks, and charge in. If your horse is stuck, go on foot and run to the tanks.
No way man. The tanks could so easily cut a hole in that circle - main gun for effect, and machine guns to keep 'em coming down.

Plus I'd like to see a horse catch a 40mph tank that's shooting at them...

If Indiana Jones did it anyone can.....

I don't know about you, but I'd lock the hatch...

I vote tanks

Yeah outside a tank is one of those big wheels on the hatch you can just unscrew open.

Weld the hatch shut before going out and just mow the cavalry down with the tank. It'd be like the Magrider from Planetside.

The 10,000 Chinese would simply run up to the 2 tanks, and then 5,000 would each lift up each tank and cary it to the sea and drop it in,
drowning the occupants and ruining the machines.

Then another 10,000 would take them apart, and make copies of each and every part, then by reverse engineering,
they will be able to to make their own tanks, at a discount, and sell the copies to anyone they want to.

cavalry hands down. they would send 3000 to hold off the tank for 10 hours, the other 5000 would dig a huge ring hole around the tank. 1000 would attack tank and lure it to fall into the hole after the hole was completed. the remaining 1000 would bury the tank with dirt and suffocate the crew.

This. Even if you forget about the fact that the cavalrymen have literally no ability to harm the tanks. Also, long-range explosive shells are going to take out a hell of a lot of the cavalry before they get into machine gun range.

after the tank runs out of fuel/ammo even rudimentary gunpowder/burning will destroy a tank. hell just pile logs around the tank and burn them out.

wouldn't the strategy for the 10,000 Chinese cavalrymen be to just wait the tanks out

how long can an Abrams tank last before it runs out of fuel?

All you need is one man armed with one Javelin.
