If the calvarymen were all spread out instead of grouped together, they could just charge the tanks from all directions and just jump on top of them, open up the hatch and kill the guys in the tanks, could they not?

How do you propose they open the tank even if they got close?

No contest, it's just a matter of time before the tanks win. Assuming the tanks are properly armed with high explosive rounds they can just keep shooting and run over the rest. They can also use smoke screens to confuse the enemy.

in command and conquer generals, the game, if you have a tank you can just charge up and run over any soldier on foot... id think if horses came in the mix, it would be the same story

Suppose the cavalry could just run around until the tank ran out of gas and then move in.

no chance...tank would win hands down.

1) calvary could never get close enough to shoot with guns
2) if they did get close the tank could backpedal and continue fire
3) if for some reason they were in range of the tank they couldnt hit driver or gunman
