2 7800gt's or xbox 360 or x1900xt

ok, i recently just ordered the Gateway FPD2185W widescreen monitor. I currently have one 7800gt. I may have some extra money towards the end of summer. My question is should I get another 7800gt and an SLI motherboard, an xbox 360, or an x1900xt which would also require(possibly) me to replace me 480W Antec Truepower.

As I dont think my current 7800gt will be able to play the games i play at 1680 x 1050 with quality video settings.

A 1900xt would probably require me to replace my current PSU and I would also be able to sell my 7800gt. Getting another 7800gt would require me to get an SLi motherboard as well as a better PSU. xbox 360 would not really require much as I would hook it up directly to the monitor.

Whats the best choice? I know there are much more important things in this world to worry about, but I have started a new job getting up at 5am and would possibly like to reward myself with something.

Thank you.

360, if you don't mind gaming on a console then it's the best value option of the lot with ease.

If you do get another 7800GT go second hand. I recon you'd be ok with the X1900XT and probably ok with the SLI on your current PSU.

Personally, I'm not a fan of console gaming so I would go with one of the video card solutions. The sli setup is faster, but more expensive. I would definitely recommend a new psu if you go the sli route. I didn't check out these prices so correct me if they're off...

sli mobo~ 90-110, vid card~ 250-300, psu~ 80 = $480

x1900xt~ 350-400

I just did a quick AT article search and found this. It looks like the gap becomes more narrow on the two games before quake. BTW, I was comparing the cards at 1600x1200.

So yeah, I think you should go with sli for 100 bucks more given you're not running dual monitors (sli has had problems w/ this in the past).

edit: fixing link

Id go with the xbox 360. Sold off my high end pc due to the lack of games and was cheaper in the long run by far.

BTW if you get the xbox 360 id pick up a MS Vga Cable so you can hook it up to your gateway to get 720p and the xbox 360 also upconverts also 🙂

yea, i was kinda thinking that. Well at least until the DX10 cards come out and settle on the market for a bit

Since RTS is still my favourite genre, there remains no true substitute for a PC.

edit - I'd say try and sell off your current 7800gt and buy the x1900xt. Even then you might struggle to play everything with high quality settings at your monitor's native resolution.

not true.
you only need to upgrade continuously if you always want access to better looking games.
if your content if having your games look about the same overtime no need to upgrade.
a geforce 4 ti 4200 can still play many games realeased today albeit not very well.

overtime your games would not look worse just not much better. of course even consoles life ends so you'll have to upgrade but only in 3-4 years.

X1900XT or 7950 GX2

The box360 is nice, but without keyboard/mouse support it's a crap in my opinion. That's the only reason I don't buy one btw (and the lack of serious VGA output support, you can't get all resolutions with the VGA converter). And I'm talking about a REAL keyboard, not some crap that reminds me of a Nokia Communicator.

i concur. on both points.

but if all you ever want to do if play endless FPS's, then by all means, knock yourself out with a console.

Your last point could allude to a PC just as well.

i have a 360 it might be able to surpass a 1900 graphics the 360 is the best for its value go 360 worry about your pc later

upgrade your pc

lets face it console gaming sucks ( sorry, to everyone I offended this is my opinon )

SLi is stupid and I think one X1900XT would beat two 7800GT's in benchmarks

edit: qwqwqw3 doesn't the xbox 360 only support like 2x Anti-Aliasing? therfore the X1900XT I think would have better graphics.

Go with the X1900XT and you won't have to upgrade your PSU. I run a Oced 1900 Xt just fine on a 460 watt.

Just so you know, sli is faster.

SLi isn't efficent as far as heat and overall performance I am not impressed with SLi and CrossFire.

IMO they need to be working on dual-core graphic processors that is the future just think of it like this dual processors or dual core?

one X1900XT is good enough to play modern games with good settings at the native res of his monitor ( 1680x1050 ). Console gaming isn't the same I don't want to start a argument but IMO console gaming isn't near pc gaming.

I highly recommend not getting SLi and getting one card like a X1900XT

yeah I know, especially when conroe can do the rest, you're better off with a single gpu unless ur doing 1600x1200 resolutions or something.
