My question which I really do not get is how does summer demand drive prices up? As a rat race commuter, i've noticed that traffic on major highways is significantly lower than in the other months im guessing with most people on vacation or home. Most college kids are not commuting to school and there are very few school buses roaming.

People travel more during the summer which causes demand to go up. Also, there are dozens of government mandated "summer blends" of gasoline for different areas of the USA that drives the cost of gas up. When summer is over, these blends go away which makes gas cheaper to make at the refinery.

I just spent the weekend in College Station Texas and the gas down there was 2.79. the cheapest I found was in Magnolia Texas where the gas was 2.55. :Q

WTF??? we flew back to Denver last night and its still 3.05 a gallon. :|

Texas = refineries = less cost to transport the gasoline = less money per gallon than Denver. Plus, the taxes may be more in Colorado.

it's not price gouging if you can easily go elsewhere to buy the product at a much cheaper price. no, it's just stupidity.

I know I shouldn't feed these but come on... the people who set the gas prices at $3.25 had no grand scheme to "brainwash" anyone.

Besides, that line's getting old.

no the one you're probably referring to is a mobil near I-287 in Westchester that's also guilty of price gouging too. they probably have it at 3.19 levels. the ones i'm talking about are the twin citgos on the hutchinson pkwy in bronx, very close to the whitestone toll plaza and they both have a subway there as well. their prices are 3.39, 3.49, 3.59 which was originally 10 cents higher last week, I never see anyone at those gas stations, which makes me happy. i really want to drive in there on day and ask the attendent if he actually believes anyone would FILL UP there when there are stations 40 cents cheaper a gallon just at the next exits
