FYI, Fry's also has it for $69.99 if Micro Center runs out of stock.
I have one of these, and I'm not a huge fan. It's a whole lot louder than my old 160GB Western Digital hard drive...a LOT louder (not like damaging or head-crash louder, but it's just pretty loud)
By default the drives have Automatic Acoustic Management (AAM) disabled. I jacked the setting up to its quietest level and poof - problem solved. (I used a free utility called HDDScan to adjust the setting.) This setting supposedly sacrifices seek speed for quieter operation, but I haven't noticed any adverse effect on performance, and I don't think it's any louder than my quiet old Seagates now.
Pretty sure this is the 7k1000.B drive... 3 platters and 16mb. Much faster than any Green or Eco drives, and faster than the WD Black in all but access time.
The 32mb model is 7k1000.C drive, 2 platters and about even with the Samsung F3, which is the best 1TB drive out there afaik.
This is all off the top of my head, though, so I could me spreading misinformation.
in store only too
You are....
By the MC by me, every one of these were the 32MB model. I was just there last night.
I've got a box full of "Deathstars". No more IBM/Hitachi for me.I still can't help but think of "deathstar"![]()
amazing how somethin like that can hang over a company's head

The question of misinformation was over the specs I listed. If MC listed the cache at 16mb, I thought I might clarify the differences in the 2 models (16mb vs 32mb).
If its the 32mb model then, according to hitachi's site, it indeed the 7k1000.C. Congrats on nabbing the faster drive.
