The new bus stops in NYC are all paid by a private advertisement company. They paid the city to have them built and the ad company puts their ads up.

Thats not private, that still public works with advertising. I think that works fine IMO.

Also the million is to just build it. It will probably cost mroe in power and upkeep then just building a reg stop.

Freedom from West Coast liberalism and related spending should be in the constitution.

Don't you mean east coast cronyism and corrupt political back-room conservative pork barrel spending?

See? I can do it too :)

First step to fixing stuff like this- Corporations are not people. We need a new amendment.

But wait, Corps are "made of people" so they can't be all that bad. Cause you know, few crocks up top can be EASILY outnumbered and fired by thousands of blind/powerless workers.

Will be a new shelter for homeless people during the cold nights and winter.

yeah I thought that's why bus stops are so small and no doors on them... because homeless people would just take them over if they were million dollar mansions.

the supreme court has decided you are wrong numerous times on that. you are the loser for not having millions of dollars, because its not illegal for one person to spend millions on lobbyists. stop being lazy.

We get ripped off via taxes and we don't know where the money actually goes (ahem teacher and cop salaries). At least with this you'd know where it's going! So sad.

My "state" is doing that too... Some bus stops in commuter/carpool lots have bus shelters that house a few dozen people, fully heated, etc.

I don't know what everyone is so up in arms about.

It's just taxpayer money, there is an inexhaustible supply of that stuff.

Hence why I said we need an amendment.

Welcome to Arlington, Virginia.

http://www.arlnow.com/2013/03/18/cost-of-new-bus-stop-1-million/

"Embedded in the floor are heating elements intended to ward off the cold weather and keep winter-weary feet cozy."

Electric elements? I wonder how much electricity they are blasting through that thing to keep it warm. Tack on at least a few hundred in utility's a month too during the winter...

They are heated using the waste heat of bitcoin mining computers, it's all good.

If you were in position where you can get a shit load of money for yourself (aka Lobbying) and "hook up" some company/or a friend with a cool little contract.....and it's ALL legal, wouldn't YOU do it?

Welcome to the CORE of America's problems.

My resolution is pretty simple.

a) lobbying aka Bribery should be illegal
b) go thru ALL the politicians records/bank statements past 30-40 years. See how lobbying effected their decisions/laws.
c) Find companies that bought contracts/bribed and charge them SHIT LOAD of money (something significant not these pesky fines...)
d) charge them with treason and put them away for good
e) as politicians see what happens to people that do this sort of shit....they won't do it again.

But I'm just a peasant....

I will warn you though. WHOLE lot of people WILL lose jobs and America in general would have to get a good taste of what reality actually is.

NO ONE wants that (trust me on that).

I have a much simpler solution that doesn't require any of that inconvenient unconstitutional investigation and draconian punishment garbage, as it takes away any incentive for politicians to get elected, stay elected, or even be politicians; it takes away representatives' entire basis for graft, which by the way, isn't so much about the small-scale crap like bus stops and parking garages snow removal, as about remaining embedded in office under the sway and pocketbook of lobbyists, corporations, and campaign financiers. It also keeps the government representative; it makes the government far more representative; in fact if it was implemented, it would be the most representative government to ever exist.

There would be some details to iron out over the logistics of it, differences with offices, judiciary, etc. but I think it's completely feasible.

Why is it still outside? For that kind of money you can buy a big house and have the bus drive inside to pick up the passengers.

Solution not found

Also Politician shouldn't be a career, it should be a privilege to serve your country.

You haven't found it, because I haven't provided it.

My system makes sure there is no such thing as a career politician, and restores the ethic of service to all public offices. Again, without all the horrifyingly illegal vindictive, super expensive, and doomed to fail (same old) bullshit you propose.

I know you don't want bullshit, to have to be vindictive, or take away anyone's rights, so I know you'll like my system.

I mean, you might think it's crazy, until you think about it.

1 down, 23 more to go.

“Our goal if at all possible is to do it for less,” Leach said. The county has budgeted $20.8 million for the remaining 23 stops, or about $904,000 for each one.
This is part of the future Columbia Pike streetcar system that gonna be built.

In times past, kings and other leaders would hide their graft from the public, for fear of a coup or revolution.

In America, the professional politicians rob the taxpayers and their children and grandchildren in plain view, to the sound of thunderous applause.
