way too pricy... 350? the 512MB version and the GTX260 are about 230$, the GTX280 is 400$, the 4870x2 is 550$... this is just too expensive.

Why do they even bother put the card out at that price?

Newegg did the same thing with the 4850 1GB and it went from $229 to now $179, and it's selling like crap as they waited to long. The same thing going to happen to the 4870 1GB. Just buy a GTX260 or GTX280 if you want the extra vram. $ lost on the red team.

Also what's the big hold up on the 4850x2? By the time it's comes out $300 is going to be way to high, forget about selling it for $400.

I agree about the price. Way too high. Not worth it. However, some of us wanting more memory cannot simply go with the 260/280 or 4870x2 because of space and/or psu restraints. My only really viable options are a 4850, 4870, or 4870 1gb. All of the equivalent nV offers are too long to fit in my case at the moment. A future build is likely, but I don't think I can wait 3-6 months for a new GPU. Looks like I might just settle with the 512mb 4870 if the price of the 1gb doesn't drop fast. I think for 19x12 with 4xAA is going to be ok with most games. Though I am keeping an eye on apoppin's recent research.

Yea i've been waiting for the 1gb version for a while too, haven't seen any reviews though, which is my last barrier between pulling the trigger on this.

Great, now just to watch what the price does.

In his testing he states: "You state: "the games that i most noticed the hitching was in Crysis [of course =P] and ET-QW - especially "outskirts" and "salvage" benches. They are played with the most maxed maxed out highest quality settings and at 4xAA/16xAF and at 19x12 [and 16x10] resolutions. "......

If you are playing at 1920x1200 I do not see the need for 4xAA/16xAF at all period; thus the 512MB card handles that resolution with absolutely no issues at all period. Waste of $$$ on the extra 512 MB.

i love your "solution" - i.e. "you don't need it"

When someone "doesn't see the need", it usually means they can't use it to even see the difference :p
--it's all about jaggies and pixel pitch and you are now living in 2006 with 19x12 and No/AA

i *love* running 4xAA/16xAF @ 19x12 on my GTX280 and my 4870x2; *they* have no problem with stuttering in the examples i used.
