I do ~12,000 a year on my '95 Camry. I'm at ~ 159,000 miles now :p

Hey, 1995 Camry is MY car :p

Of course, it was my parent's before . . .

258,000 miles on it!

Audi problems are usually electrical, as long as he doesn't have a Turbo model the powertrain should be reliable (although I don't really know exactly how much headroom he'd have left since 250K+ is in some unknown territory).

At any rate, since they're highway miles they're not really that bad for the car...as someone else in the car thread pointed out, he only went through one set of brake pads so it was mostly just cruising-no stop and go or anything. I'm sure when you drive that much you probably just end up setting cruise control and chilling.

Still, just the sheer number is quite impressive nonetheless...I don't really think I'd have much qualms buying the car at the right price though, since highway miles are very consistent and hardly run the engine at high RPM. Also, there's almost NO shifting involved in highway driving...city driving needs the transmission to shift up and down constantly, while cruising is largely in overdrive...and sometimes you might shift down one gear to pass.

So anyways, I guess my point is that 317 isn't neccessarily all that hard to achieve if all you're doing is highway miles.

Have a '00 Camry w/142K mi on it. Take a lotta w/e trips to ball games, etc. Commute about 50 mi r/t each day.

Also, I once bought a Nissan Max s/w from my neighbor that had 300k + mi on it for $250. Bought it just to say I had a car with that many mi on it :). Had to put tires on it but basically after that all I did was change the oil and rotate/bal tires. Eventually it pretty much died w/approx. 380k mi on it. Brakes needed to be replaced, engine was using oil, etc. Traded it for a Taurus s/w which was the worst car I ever owned!

That's an average of 120 miles/day.

If he only changed the oil every 45 days, that's over 5000 miles between oil changes.

If I was driving that much, lexus is probably the brand that I would choose. Gotta be comfortable.
