Grats on the car, I almost bought a 540i too.

Definitely check to see if you have a nakasil engine. If you do you might be able to get a new one from the dealer.

As far as suspension, look into getting Bilstein Sports struts and either H&R or Eibach springs. Sachs is also good as mentioned above.

Also if you EVER need OEM parts, only order from http://www.autohausaz.com/. They are the cheapest I have ever seen for BMW OEM (or OE) parts.
 
The car has a new clutch, that was one of the last repairs that guy did on the car. It has the Nikasil engine, but with 117000 miles and no problems I doubt it will be an issue.
