For the time being, someone lended me his old Honda Accord until I buy my car in a few weeks. But in the highway, in the 60s mph, the engine's RPM goes to ~3200 RPM. Is this normal?

Seems a little high. My 93 i4 camry doesn't get to 3k until about 80mph.

EDIT: Auto 4 speed.

Sounds about right. Mine hits 3k right between 65/70. Yours is probably a smaller engine. I've got an 88 4runner 3l v6

What type of transmission?

I had an 89 Accord with a 5-speed manual, and it ran ~2500rpm at 60mph in 5th, and probably 3000 in 4th.

I have an 87 5sp manual Accord. around 70mph in 5th, it is maybe a little over 3000rpm. 4th going 60 is also around 3000rpm

edit: typos

with the auto in my 1991 honda accord, 3000 RPM is almost exactly 70 MPH. 3400 is 80 MPH. if your's is an automatic, your torque convertor probably isn't locking up. keep in mind the car must be fully warm before it will lock, though.

Toyota Avalon V6 and 4 speed auto with .735 4th gear. 3000 rpm at 90 mph. And 29 mpg, thank you very much.

3000 rpm at 60 might be a typical rpm for a 4 cylinder 3 speed auto. It's been years since I've driven one though.

I had an Audi 4000s for a few years. 1.8L motor with a 3 speed auto. At 100 mph, the thing was really screaming. Near 5000 rpm, IIRC.

a lil high from what i remember....90 accord ex 5spd would be about 70 at 3200, but the ex had a bigger engine, so it depends on what engine and tranny you have of course

Just make sure the OD is on But other than that, whatever gearing it is, is what it is.

98 Camry i4 doesn hit 3k until well over 80, even with AC on =) Maybe 85 - 90 gets near 3k.

alright, we now have input from 4th gen owners with both 5-speed and auto transmisions (they were the same for all models, and the EX did NOT have a bigger engine, just a version of the same engine that was tuned for more top-end power)... and both would indicate that something isn't right with that accord the OP is driving. i'm going to guess it's an auto and the torque converter isn't locking, or else the OP isn't using D4 on the auto or 5th on the manual.

I just sold my 93 accord.

72mph was 3000RPM.

Assuming it's an automatic, what happens when you are going 60MPH and then downshift into the next lower gear?

We're all just jacking each other off until the OP coughs up what the tranmission is in the loaner.
