Happens all the time. HP always drops a bit before redline, and in some cases it really falls off.

Yeah, but when FI screws up, it's a PITA. The FI in my dad's Explorer screwed up and is running lean all the time now. It's a $650 repair bill for something that can be fixed with a screwdriver in two minutes if you have carburetors. (For anyone who remembers me asking about the spark knock on that Explorer, this is why it's been happening.)
The GTO is a very nice car. Definitely cool, love the sound of those big ol' V8s.
