The 1970 Pontiac gto with high rise intake 455 superduty engine and such. Maybe a t4 bb turbo as well.

So what do the gurus think. Serous cool factor or not?

Thems is before my time, methinks.

I don't really want to drive anything that's older than I am.

Give me reliable fuel injection that doesn't ever need to be completely rebuilt, mechanically efficient overhead cams, more than two valves per cylinder, a five-six speed manual transmission, horsepower when I need it (HP that increases as the redline approaches), and good fuel economy the rest of the time.

Ok, first of all, there is no such thing as a 455 Super Duty in a GTO, of any year. They were only made in 73 and 74.

A turbo 400 tranny was standard behind the 455 HO in '70 or a 4 speed. They didn't put turbo 350's with those engine.

The GTO is an awesome car. I'd love to have a convertible eventually.

The 455 HO was basically a 455 with Ram Air IV-type heads, but the combustion chambers were larger to keep compression down.
Ram Air heads has 72cc chambers, which made 10.75-1 compression on a 400....would have been well over 11-1 on a 455.

1970 Pontiac GTO, "Serious cool factor or not?"

It's not my favorite, but it's a serious machine. If you get any car like this, try and keep it as close to original as possible. I appreciate that in a vintage car more than anything else.

As RPM goes up, I don't think it's possible for bhp to go down in that equation.

Happens all the time. HP always drops a bit before redline, and in some cases it really falls off.

Yeah, but when FI screws up, it's a PITA. The FI in my dad's Explorer screwed up and is running lean all the time now. It's a $650 repair bill for something that can be fixed with a screwdriver in two minutes if you have carburetors. (For anyone who remembers me asking about the spark knock on that Explorer, this is why it's been happening.)

The GTO is a very nice car. Definitely cool, love the sound of those big ol' V8s.

Well, I think every mechanic I've ever talked to in depth has brought a GTO up at some point in the conversation

In addition, I'd like to diss my employer (GM) for limiting the production of this model due to an internal management pissing contest :frown:

Goats are sweet cars I would love to own one. I think everycar company has that pissing contest and always lose. Remember the GN's 🙁 another GM blunder IMO.

GM blunders....Oh, I could write a term paper on this subject.
My personal favorite is Oldsmobile...take the #1 selling model car in America in 1986 (Oldsmobile Cutlass) and 14 years later announce that you are killing the brand HA!!

<< What else could I throw in this baby? I mean intake n such... >>

The car is nearly perfect stock.. I don't know why you'd want to subject it to ricer mods. Granted, intakes and such are good, but comon, you aren't going to find the same aftermarket for these things as you would a regular vehicle.

Radeon for show time ill throw in the engine w/ matching vins, but for fun there has to be a secong engine with everything perfect...

<< Figures they made it the year I was born ! 🙂 >>

So is that why I like the 1954 Jag XK150's sooooooooo much? 😀

you just crossed into the idiot zone. If you want a show car, get a show car. If you want a go car, get a go car. Classic Muscle Car Engines are NOT hot-swappable.
