how did you get $850? shows up 895 for me.

this monitor has gotten some really nice reviews concerning its display, but complaints on its lack of being "user-friendly."

ill look around and try to find it. it has the same display as the viewsonic vg191, which at pcworld won best monitor (its little brother did, 181).

Interesting.

the specs look good ...

Contrast Ratio: 500:1
Response Time 15 ms (R) 10ms (F)

That response time means 25ms average I believe.

any links to reviews ? i haven't found much.

Yes, it does, and it's good enough for gaming.:)

The brightness is a concern. Way under the standard for a 19" LCD.

I think you have Contrast ratio confused with Brightness. This LCD has 500:1 contrast ratio. By comparison, the SyncMaster 171Mp which is one of the brighter LCDs you'll see at Best Buy and Compusa has 400:1.

Both the SyncMaster 171Mp and this LCD have 250 cd/m^2. Which for anyone who has looked at the SyncMaster 171Mp, will know is plenty bright. It stands out in the row of LCDs as you walk by it's so bright.

The question really is how accurate their measurements are. It seems lots of the new 19" LCDs are coming with 500:1 Contract, 15 rise, 10 ms fall and 250cd/m^2 brightness. Meaning they all are probably using the same LCD part. Wonder who is making it.

Yeah, I guess 250 is the standard brightness for an 18/19" LCD. I guess I was just thinking of the highend ones, like Solarism.;)

As for contrast, 400 and 500 is typical.

<< Same panel as the SXGA 19" Viewsonic (VG191) and Planar. It's a good LCD. >>

How do you come to this conclusion?

I may be wrong, but I believe that there's only 1 manufacturer currently making MVA based panels with the following specs:

19"
SXGA
250nits brightness
500:1 contrast
15ms rise response time, 10ms fall response time = 25ms total average response time

<< Here's a review for the vendor :p
I've bought jotsticks and mice from them before, but I'd think twice about spending this kind of money there.
>>

Well, it could be worst. Compaq has a rating of 2.65. We all jumped in when they were having $800 19" viewsonic.

<< they have another panel here with the exact same specs, except w/o the sceptre name and with additional speakers for only $830 >>

Actually, the Sceptre has the two speakers also. Funny how both are exactly the same, well, except in price....

I'm waiting for the 24" lcd's to come down. I'll then hook up every room in my house with one of those lcd's. One will show video's, one will be a 'puter, one will control the electrical system of the house, etch. Ah, those will be good times. :)

I worked for Sceptre before as their LCD technician. They are not bad LCDs but I think Viewsonic's are better. The last time I was there, they were using Samsung LCDs but I'm not sure about now, that was about 2 years ago and the LCD industry has certainly changed since then. But as returns go...I didn't get too many to repair just about 4-5 per day (is that a lot?) They were simple problems too, maybe change the backlight, inverter, or power board. Overall, they aren't the best...but they will suffice for many.

<< i'm gonna hopefully pay these guys a visit on my way home today >>

If you mean justdeals, you might be wasting a trip.

A few months back I had a bad motherboard I needed to return and I offered to just drive by their location while I was on vacation in CA. They told me they don't let anyone in the warehouse and I just send the board in via UPS from my east coast location.
