Do you dislike your overall text performance (runny 'il's etc.)? The problem is the analog cable and digital noise.

For a quick fix just hit the 'auto configure' button...I know most of you know its there but it took me awhile to figure
it out since I dont read manuals. :) Its the button to the left of the power switch.

This will automatically adjust your phase and tracking and eliminate the digital noise but if you want a precision
adjustment you will have to do it manually or follow my instructions as follows.

1. Download the Nokia monitor test HERE

2. Run N-test and when you get the starting screen left click on the resolution test, you immediately see the highest
res horizonal test screen, now right click once, you now see the highest res vertical screen and now you also see
the horid digital noise. Now hit your "auto adjust" button again.

Voila , your monitor kicks arse. :)

(now go and set your cleartype to BRG and pick whatever style you like, 96dpi should look beautiful. )

My only concern/worry now is that I will have to go thru 10 monitors to get a perfect one. :)

Naw, I'm betting the next generation squashes the majority of the concerns/knocks on LCDs (ghosting, response times, color representation, resolution scaling), at what price....we'll find out soon enough :Q

Or are you saying that you have problems like dead pixels etc.?

They still have a very long way to go but LCDs have this tasty synthetic look about them that I enjoy.

Anyways yeah, I am reffering to a few dead pixels...mine has 4 which I could live with but Dell is sending me another unit anyways.

Actually, I did a manual adjustment of "phase" to my lcd, and it was even better. The lcd set my phase @ 78 .. i changed it to 81, and it looks better and has even less fuzzies in the horizontal test !

I am still getting reddish tints on "i" and "l" letters after doing the cleartype fix - i am running analog, so maybe that is why

Personally im still trying to hold out for the LED displays that don't need backlights to come to market.

The bad news is that in my original post I had thought this fix would take care of the cleartype issue...it does not. What it does do though is clean up the non-cleartype text alot as well as help the overall analog picture.

It depends on what you do most of the time. Overall I think a CRT is more versatile....a good quality CRT that is.

How about ClearType on DVI connections with Dell 1800FP?
Is it as good as on any other LCD screen?
As I understand you're all talking about analog connections, but I've heard/read about ClearType issues with 1800FP where they didn't mention specifically that the problem was on analogue connections, so I need someone to confirm/deny that this or any other similair issue exists on DVI connections...

Thanks...
