Plus, it's not like all of the AP exams were in useful subjects... sure, I could have taken AP English Language, AND AP English Lit, etc... but what's the point?
AP English Language and Literature are often lumped together, but they are very different exams. Writing coherently plays a part on the Literature exam, but the required reading list is the core of it.

I don't think I worded my post carefully enough. I understand that they are distinct and separate exams, but most colleges won't award credit for many similar exams. He might take several relatively similar AP's and only actually get credit for a few of them because they overlap. It happened to me.
Does that make more sense?

Do you realize how much poon he s gonna get when he turns his brain power towards making money? He'll probably be one of those millionaire 20 year olds. Bitches be licking his shoes and grabbin on his dick by then.

I am so fvcking jealous of this kid. Can you imagine how easy it is for him to get laid now? All he has to do is go up to any hot girl and say, "I graduated from UVA with a BS in only one year by taking 37 credits per semester!" and a few minutes later those hot girls will be spreading their legs wide open to unveil their moist yearnings for him.
lolz, is that how it works where you live? 😀

I'm still chuckling over that "moist yearnings" part.

Goddamn.
Whoa, that's exactly how many college credits I got from AP. I took two years to finish though. Wouldn't want to do one. Not sure I could've, for that matter.

big whoop. 😉 I was the youngest person to graduate at my university.

I was one of the youngest supervisors ever at my last company. I am one of the youngest (if not the youngest) managers ever at my current company. To each their own path. I chose to work full time and go to college. Others choose to cram, as long as the time is used efficiently, its all good.

I get your point now. That happened to me with those two exams, which is why I picked that nit. 🙂

he's still too young to hit bars, and too old to date girls under 18. socially, he's still fvcked

me = 19, for reference

edited for spelling

I"m surprised UVA would award him that credit on AP tests alone and waive the classes too.

how tough of a school is UVA anyhow?

Taking an english course from a university that has a great english program and taking on a test are not the same thing. Unless this kid scored 5 on them.

What he'll miss out actually is getting a well rounded education. Seeing the ideas other students brings forward on various topics including current events. Personally I think that is a huge part of going to college. Unlike high school that has people who are relative similar to you. In college you will likely run into people from all parts of the country and even the world.

Anyhow geniuses like this kid don't necessarily turn out to be millionaires.

Take Terence Tao for example. Absolute genius. Earned his Ph.D when he was twenty. Now he's a math professor at UCLA. I doubt UCLA pays him 7 figures.

he's a kid that does not and will not care about POON until he truly matures... if he engages in a relationship while going for PHD or early career, it will not necessarily be for love, but for process of doing so. that lucky girl will not be a hottie, but someone who can pick his brain on a level higher than others his age.

i would never give up my years of college to be in his place

*edit* above post took the rest of the words out of my mouth

Sounds like the OP is jealous.

Usually critics are.

I love the stupid notion that you mature and learn so many social skills in college.

Wake up call. You learn this between the ages of 18-22 anywhere if you deal with people.

This kid graduated with his bachelors in one year at the age of 18. They were talking about this kid on the radio this morning and I agree with what they were saying. Seriously, "WTF is the point of this?" He's four years ahead of everyone else, but he misses out on everything else besides academic education that college is about. College shapes you into the human being that you will be for the rest of your life, not to mention the social and networking skills that are learned indirectly through school. This kid is going to be a walking robot. I think it's is quite an accomplishment that 99% of people would not be able to do, but I definetly don't think it's necessary and I feel like this kid is going to have major communication problems in the future by living his life in books and missing out on a social life.

So I guess you feel that ANYONE that did not go to college is bound to be a social retard huh?

you do realize that there is a great deal of people around the world even very famous people that never went to College.. hell some never finished HS and they seem to be doing ok...
there is plenty of time in this life to socialize... college is not the be all end all of your life..
you can skip it and do just fine in life. (socially and Monitarily in fact)

The op is just a simplistic arrogant person who assumes college is all about the social aspects of life and not for the degree.

No, college is first and foremost about the degree. But everything that comes along with college, whether you stay in your room and play wow or you coomute to campus, or you live on campus and party every night, it shapes you into a different person than what you entered college as. Much like high school is first and foremost about the diploma. But there's a lot of growing up and learning to be done in high school.

And how about people who go to college later in life? When a 45yr old with a Bachelors goes back for a Masters? How much change do they go through?

It just seems like cheating when you don't even have to take any GE courses because you tested out of ALL of them in high school.

Give me a break. GE's are just grade inflators.

I think it is impressive that he was able to do it. 🙂 Props to him. If he is mature enough already, no point. Plus there is always grad school if he still wants to pursue something. Or he could take another undergrad degree just to expand himself. 🙂

I just wonder how much of that you could actually absorb and apply after blowing through it so quick.

Yeh, you have a degree. But do you even remember what classes you took?

I went into college with 0 credits and finished in 2.5 years. Started Jan 2000 and finished May 2002. I graduated early from high school. Most hours I took was 25 which was my last semester. Wasnt that much of a big deal.

Although I guess at 18, three years seems to make a difference after 10 years it won't really matter if hes 28 or 31 when he has a 200k+ salary. If he finishes as he plans he will start his position at 26, but likely he will still start off at bottom of the totem pole. I don't know what it takes to get into patent law but it seems the first grad school is a waste.
In medicine we get a few Doogie's but after 4 years of med school, 4+ years of residency, your 30 before you make any decent dough, he'd be 27 not a big difference. The key is not to get married until after you make it, then you get some serious play, but that doesn't work if you want a family.

yes he's azn....and he went to TJ, where about 25% of those kids goto UVA, (local to both, have several friends who did that track) Its VERY easy to get college credits at a school like TJ, unlike my HS where not too many classes offered college credits.

This kid totally missed the point of college...growing up and maturing. His loss...oh well.

he could have at least stretched it to 2 years so he'd have some time to actually meet people and have a little fun... just a bit
