I graduated at 19, double bachelors in two years. It's not nearly as hard as it sounds. And at 23, I have a great job at a major corporation and am considered a star player. So much for losing out on the "social networking" skills that I needed. I have a great group of friends, and we go out once or twice a week.
My husband also graduated at 19, but did it in a year and a half. His path was harder than mine because I came in with more credits - he did more at the university.
College, in the sense that we know it today (social club), is relatively recent. Socially, people did just fine before it, people now can do just fine without it. Some of you guys need to stop assuming everybody's life and mind are just like yours.
Some people go into college with more maturity than others leave with.
Oh, and neither of us are Asian.
The problem I have with this is the time frame allowed for prereqs. It took me a year and a half just to get my prereqs in Math, Physics, and Chemistry done before I could really start my major.
What kind of degree only requires courses that can be done simultaneously or doesn't have prereqs? Where's the general education?
Socially I think anyone could recoop from a shotgun college career by travelling. You'll party way harder in Ibiza than you ever will at a frat party. Spring break in Cancun doesn't require a student card.
