So much for losing out on the "social networking" skills that I needed. I have a great group of friends, and we go out once or twice a week.

My husband also graduated at 19, but did it in a year and a half. His path was harder than mine because I came in with more credits - he did more at the university.

College, in the sense that we know it today (social club), is relatively recent. Socially, people did just fine before it, people now can do just fine without it. Some of you guys need to stop assuming everybody's life and mind are just like yours.

Some people go into college with more maturity than others leave with.

Oh, and neither of us are Asian.

The problem I have with this is the time frame allowed for prereqs. It took me a year and a half just to get my prereqs in Math, Physics, and Chemistry done before I could really start my major.

What kind of degree only requires courses that can be done simultaneously or doesn't have prereqs? Where's the general education?

Socially I think anyone could recoop from a shotgun college career by travelling. You'll party way harder in Ibiza than you ever will at a frat party. Spring break in Cancun doesn't require a student card.

I did all my pre-reqs in community college prior to turning 18, which is why I said my husband had it harder. He crammed all his pre-reqs in his first few quarters, and then took his other classes.

I know a whole family, whose kids were graduating from college at 18 - 20 (2 brothers and 2 sisters) and then all going on to medical school.

None of the kids were geniuses. They were all probably a bit above average in smarts, of course.

Their father was a professor at the University of Toledo. The kids all took classes for free there throughout high school. By the time they got done with high school, they had lots of credits already.

Great post.

This idea that you learn a lot on college by interacting is dumb. At 18, you are usually very naive and will learn a lot about people no matter where you are interacting with people. Some people just never mature but that has little to do with college.

He'll never get laid.

He wants to be a patent lawyer.

*insert cash register sound here*

Once he starts working and making money he could get more play than all of ATOT, combined.

As I am studying to be a patent lawyer and work in a big patent firm in Washignton D.C., it is unlikely he will get play once he becomes a patent attorney, because he will live, breathe, and eat work.

Nothing wrong with working at the PTO. Its a good job, pays well, and gives you lots of time off. Yes, it does attract a lot of meatheads who look like they haven't seen a woman in 20 years, but that doesn't mean its a bad place to work.
