No buddy, Im not saying that if you skip college, you miss out on all of the mysteries of life. Someone who doesnt go to college can experience everything that a college student experiences. I should have made that more clear. My point was that I could bet you that this kid is an extreme case of a hermit crab, sheltered from life and social experiences, and that will sadly effect him later in his life, more so than it makes him different now.

You're just saygin that because you wasted mommy and daddy's money to make straight C's. College isn't a social club. It isn't even among the best places to socialize.
 
Haha, some people complain he will had no social lives. College social lives is not something to be proud off based on what I saw and experience.
Some complain he had no chance to "comprehend" what he learned because of cramming. Let be honest here, it take him 1 yr vs us mortal 4 yrs to do the cramming. A lucky few will be able to apply what they learn and truely "comprehend". The rest will slave away at any jobs to earn a living and forgot most of what they learned within a few years. As for him, he got "3 year" on us to really comprehend what he learned. 😀
 
seems like a lot of people in this thread really hated college or are basing their opinions on it around repeated viewings of Animal House.

sucks that you guys chose to use your college experience as a diploma mill.

yes, I agree with this statement, there are so many good thing to do at college beisdes just getting a diploma. Like learning to take care of yourself, learning social skills, making long term friends. OK, obviously some people at college take the freedom badly and party to much and stuff, but going to parties and having a good time is not only a fun thing to do, it also builds a network of friends you can rely on later in life. Now I don't want to go and sterotype the people who do this too much, but based on MY personal experience I ahve noticed alot of asian kids who are pushed extremely hard by their parents to excell in academic puruits, and the ones I knew who did that were not very happy people. IF this guy gains happyness from graduating in one year then I say good job, if he did it becasue his parents are pushing him to do it, or becasue he has no social life then thats not a good thing.

I think you are VASTLY overstating the earning potential of scientists. Most people in specialized research aren't in it for the money.

It's not THAT low, but I'm saying that doing research is not known to be a $mulit-K/year job either. For the amount of time the average person must put in to become a full-research scientist (4 years undergrad, 5+ for the PhD, possibly more for post-doc positions to gain more experience), the salary does not measure up, on average.

 
i give the kid props, that is insane. even if he isnt the most social person, im sure he will be making more money then i ever could. and with money, he could pull some hot ladies, chicks dig money, so im sure he could hook that up. 😛

UVA has lower standards. even if you get 5s on all available AP exams, you'd only get credited for 1 semester per subject (if that; + no overlaps allowed) at an elite school like MIT.

I've been working on my bachelor's degree since '98. Going to college for me has been an uphill battle since I started. I'm happy for the 18 year old kid - he avoided wasting 3 years of his life.

Maybe he's planning on doing that during his master's degree / law school years ? He will probably be done with a masters in < 1 year, and law school in another 2 years. So in the time it takes your average kid to get his bachelor's, this kid will be done with a Juris Doctor, Master of Science (Math), Bachelor's of Science (Math, Physics). Sounds like a pretty good head start to me.
