I was gonna say that there is a good chance it is a TC Sounds driver.

I believe there are some measurements on AVSForum.

It isn't that hard to believe really. The Vd of each:

JL F113 - 697cm^2 x 70mm (p-p xmax) = 4.790 liters

Velo DD18 - 1200cm^2 x 31.75mm (p-p xmax) = 3.81 liters.



 
Velodyne subs are very accurate with low distortion but do not reach stratospheric levels like a passive woofer with a large amp. It becomes apparent if you hook it up to an instrument. They have some ALC action going on and it's probably for the better since so many people run everything into clipping these days. :disgust:

My Klipsch Heritage setup puts out enough subbass to shake the room just fine. My pair of Image Dynamic 10" subs are extremely accurate and shake my car too.

It's about playing not specs. I have seen quite a few highend speakers that don't do 20-20k, but still are smokingly accurate.

Why not?

The numbers are on AVS as well as other audio forums (i can go try to dig up links if you want). JL definitely had its roots in the car audio industry, they just happened to hit really nicely with their F112/113 series, and probably the Gotham.

The Pro sound i have experience with is the less expensive ones where spl at 40+ hz is the goal, rather than low distortion 20hz bass. Two totally different markets for sure (home vs. pro) and I did list one company that is a great example of Pro sound that is more than quality enough for home applications (Danley).

Yes this is the case. Subwoofer use is definitely on the rise in the pro sound world though.

Really, it sounds like you're not talking specifically about bass whatsoever. And, good pro drivers tend to have much less distortion compared to "hi-fi" or car audio drivers, especially as you increase SPL. Nothing wrong with high SPL; if you want realism, you have to recreate the live SPLs anyway.
